SA-12 2 ohm dvc clipping, enclosure maybe?

Recommended Posts

Just got a new SA-12 2ohm DVC and threw it in a ported box w/ 1.75cft wired @ 4ohms only feeding it 300w and it's clipping, could it be the temporary enclosure it's in, or it being under powered, any other ideas?

How do you know it's clipping?

More detail on your complaint of "clipping"?

Enclosures can't cause clipping.

You can't harmfully underpower a speaker either.

The amp puts out 300w @ 4 ohms RMS, I've got the gain at 1.0v & there is no bass boost set on the amp/HU and it's clipping with the volume on my HU at 10 out of 40 (HU clips signal at 36)

I'm saying it's clipping because the sub is like, vibrating/distorting, you can hear it outside of the car w/ the trunk closed

If you have the gain set at 1 volt, that's probably the opposite of what you want. Your gain says something like .5-5.0 volts right?

Your head unit puts out 2-5 volts most likely. So your amp needs to be set the same, not at the lower voltage. If your head unit puts out 4 volts

your amp needs to be set to 4 volts. Otherwise you'll clip.

Yes, I know subs are supposed to move. I don't have any equipment to test it with..but you don't always need equipment to tell that a signal is clipped...lol..

HU's preamp voltage is 4 volts, I never knew that TheBetterMethod.
