Background Info

Load tester - sanp-on
The load tester uses a turn dial that has to be cranked and held in place. We did our best trying to hold it at 500amp load for 30secs but some variations occur which you can see in the video. Please do not get upset at these varations but you can use them to form any opinion you want.

After the video ended a one min timer (started after load) told use when to take the picture for return to voltage.

We took measurements, weight, and pad size for each battery.

how pad size was taken.

THIS ONE WILL BE RETESTED WITH A BETTER CONNECTION

Model - Optima D34/78
group -34
weight - did not weigh
+ post pad - .886in
starting V - 12.66
5 sec load - 527amps 9.02
15 sec load - 526amps 8.81
20 sec load- 512amps 8.79v
25 sec load - DNF
30 sec load - DNF
instant return - DNF
1 min return - DNF

20 secs into testing the battery was popping, hissing, smoking, and then upon melting we shut it off. Even the top terminals were super hot. The battery did survive and still works but I would not recommend this battery for this kind of load. ( Warning - a 500amp load is not recommended for any group 34 at all)

two things that optima is resting way low. Its pretty much kicked at its resting voltage.

They have been known to not handle nearly as much crrent draw through the side mounts. do it on the top mounts and see. It wont make that much of a difference im sure but ive got some extensive ahdns on with them.

Great tests! Thank you!

Were the batteries charged before hand or were they just pulled out of a car/off the shelf?

All charged recently. The group 34 optima was pulled from my pos s10 truck. and was not charged. We are working on getting more batteries.
