Its better to go a bit above the current draw with wire size / runs but over doing it does not really add any benifit. For example if you amp pulls about 400A peak. There is no need to run 3 1/0 power and grounds lol unless you are using poor quality cables lol.
ChevyBoy95 Posted March 29, 2013 Report Posted March 29, 2013 also, many of these korean board amps are rated at 1 ohm, but have the capability on the right electrical system to go down to say .25 ohms. This causing WAY more current draw from the batteries and alternator that the manufacturer didnt intend or plan for. So your single 1/0 might be fine for 3krms, but when you wire it to say .5 or .25 ohms, you are now in the power realms of needing dual inputs and so on and needing multiple runs of 1/0 to sustain the amount of current the amp is drawing. Plus the car audio game is all about minimizing resistance, the less resistance the better. And even if you run a daily system and dont push your equipment to the limits, paying 30 bucks for some dual inputs isnt a huge investment and will lower the resistance a little bit. It is more of a fad than a necessity it seems, but there are many who need them...
