4th order under rear seat (chevy extended cab)

Recommended Posts

Well its time to get this thing going. I've been planing this build for months (too long lol) with ideas going from 2 12s, 3 15s, 4 8s, etc. you get the point. I finally decided to get two sa-8v2s for a few reasons: to get loud, low, and i need that back seat for other times ;). The box itself was a pita to design but i have no doubt it will pay off. anyways here is the list of equipment:

acquired:

2 sa8-v2d2

Pioneer DEH-P8400BH

Clarion EQS746

iPad mini

Polk audio Dxi650s

pioneer 6.5s (unknown model)

kicker ds46 4x6s

SoundQubed Q1-1200D

Cadence acoustics AMPKIT4

going to get:

mb quart ONX1.1000d or SoundQubed q1-1200d

knu koncepts 4 ga OFC wiring kit

1/0 for big 3

future plans:

mb quart ONX4.60

mb quart onyx 6.5 components x2

H/O alternator (prob. mechman)

pioneer deh-80prs (or current model of the time)

SD, thank for the input. I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . .

Here is the thread for the box design: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164148-4th-order-under-back-seat-for-2-sa-v2s/#entry2381462

for an overview the box is a 4th order band pass with a ratio of 1:3 with 0.786ft3 sealed(this will be divided into two chambers) and 2.357ft3 ported(just one ported chamber).

The subs will be facing the sealed section with the magnets in the ported sections. I cant thank Chris Hammer enough for doing the sketch-up its exactly what my crazy mind envisioned :)

The first thing im doing is making speaker pods for two 6.5s in each door:

i laid a layer of painters tape over each door

i put a layer of fiber glass then the screen to help mold the right shape.526618_168998973255640_1393506379_n.jpg

Sorry for not taking pictures of a couple of steps but after the mold was dry i screwed on some speaker rings and rapped it in an old t-shirt. just a layer of resin made it as strong as it needed to be so i put a layer of bondo and got work sanding. before i finished sanding i put it in place to test fit and listened for a couple of days to see how it sounded. it sounded great!

i took it out finished sanding and painted it up. im impressed with how it turned out for the first time.

here is the final product (just the one side for now, still working on the other).

i learned quite a bit while i was building these the most important was not to use bondo filler again! lol

the next project is a float mount iPad dash. ("stole" the idea from soundman ca lol)

the first attemt at making a mold scared the crap out of me because i didnt use enough hardener in the resin and everything was sticking together.. needless to say just started over lol

second and final attempt went perfect! i put turtle wax all over the table and the ipad. to make the mold i used fiberglass cloth then made it strong with fiberglass mat.

Here's the update for today. i finished the drivers side door speaker pods and man do they sound great! i had no idea that i could reach that level of sound of just the head unit. if only there was more time in the day to work. tomorrow i have after school workouts so i cant work on anything then. the build is pretty much on hold for the rest of the week as i am competing in a state science fair thursday and friday. after that im good to go! i should be starting the box saturday but might be postponed till sunday.

edit: i couldnt get any pics of the finished speaker pods because it was dark. ill probably post some up tomorrow though.

looking forward to the outcome of the box :)

Considered putting a hole in the center of the seat for more space?

Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through.
