Kyle J Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 I've now blown a total of 5 Dual 2ohm 12" Subwoofers, 2 Pioneer 400WRMS (first ones), and 3 Skar VVX12's(1 v1, 2 v2's). The amps powering them were (2) Hifonics BRZ1200.1D's wired to 4ohms when the 2 Pioneer's blew and when my first VVX12 v1 blew since at the time I didn't have my 2 XS Power Batteries but I did have adequate Wiring. I have no doubt in my mind that the first 3 Subs blew because of Clipping so I decided to buy a SMD DD-1 and last night we used it to set the Gains of all 3 of my amps (Full Range/4-channel and 2 Mono's). We found that with that the Subwoofer-out began distorting at 54/62 on my Pioneer DEH-3500ui so we set the gains on the 2 BRZ1200.1d's according to the 53/62 volume mark using track #3 (40hz -5db) as recommended for higher quality sound. I am aware that I was attempting to using 1,200WRMS-rated amps with 600WRMS-rated drivers but I've seen 20 people over-power them more then me! Last night the setup was hitting hard but today after 3 minutes of jamming at 52 and 53 of some Young Jeezy. Here's some info about my setup if it helps you better understand possible causes of my blown subs: -XS Power D5100R (Starter) and D3400 (in trunk), 0 Gauge OFC from batts, less than 2 foot 4 gauge CCA from distr. block to Amps, (2) 0 Gauge OFC Grounds up front (all Knu Wiring), basic Knu RCA's from old 8 Gauge Knu KCA kits -Head Unit is a Pioneer DEH-3500ui, iPhone was music source via USB. After setting the gains with the DD-1 the HU settings were set at 100hz for HPF, No Bass boost, Loudness set to 'High', Eq was set to 'Powerful', Subwoofer-out level was set 6/6 -No Bass Boost on amps, Subsonic filter was set higher than the minimum 20hz -2 D2 Skar VVX12 v2's wired to 1ohm on 2 BRZ1200.1d's Sorry if I over whelmed you guys with info but I could really use your help since I've now wasted so much money just to burn up subs... :./ My High School Build- 07' Civic Si Sedan Head Unit: Pioneer DEH-3500ui Sub Amp: (2) Hifonics BRZ1200.1D's Full Range Amp: Pioneer 75.4 Subs: (2) Skar Audio VVX12 V2 D2's Speakers: Pioneer 4-Way's x4 (RF's soon) Tweeters: (RF's or Alpine soon) XS Power D5100R Upfront XS Power D3400 in Trunk Knu Kolossus OFC 1/0 Power & Grounds Big 2/3 Wiring with 1/0 Gauge (Alt. is left)

n8ball2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 Turn it all off. The dd-1 can only give you a clean base. You turning on loud and powerful and all that clips your signal still. After setting the gains is when we turned those settings back on. So the head unit was sending a clipped signal to my amps with the Powerful EQ & High Loudness? Trey_Dog650 Posted April 8, 2013 Report Posted April 8, 2013 Yes. The loudness and powerful boost signal. So by doing that you just defeated the purpose of using a dd1 13 Kia Forte Build! 07 Hyundai Accent Build ***Super Seller*** N8ball2013 And then he gets to say ok all you guys were right. im sorry for being a dummy poo poo head.
Kyle J Posted April 8, 2013 Author Report Posted April 8, 2013 also check your phone make sure the volume on it isn't too loud could cause clipping and distortion I used the USB not the 3.5mm Aux so the head unit only reads the audio files from the phone so there's no distortion coming from the phone My High School Build- 07' Civic Si Sedan Head Unit: Pioneer DEH-3500ui Sub Amp: (2) Hifonics BRZ1200.1D's Full Range Amp: Pioneer 75.4 Subs: (2) Skar Audio VVX12 V2 D2's Speakers: Pioneer 4-Way's x4 (RF's soon) Tweeters: (RF's or Alpine soon) XS Power D5100R Upfront XS Power D3400 in Trunk Knu Kolossus OFC 1/0 Power & Grounds Big 2/3 Wiring with 1/0 Gauge (Alt. is left)
