Got a new car, 2005 Acura Tl, planing on installing the sound equipment from the previous car including: Focal 165a1 components, for front Focal IC 160, for back Boston acoustics GTA 704 amp, for mids and highs AQ 1200w rms amp, for subs 2 obsidian Audio 12 inch subs Wire: 0 awg power, rca, speaker, etc. and a new Pioneer head unit A few questions now follow... I'm planing on running about 1400 watts, so will a 220 amp alt be enough? For a battery, I was thinking xs power d925 in conjunction with my stock battery, do I need an isolator? Damplifier, any significant difference between second skin pro b-stock and pro bulk? Pretty sure the head unit is going to be a custom job. Can anybody point me in the right direction of how to design a dash mold? Would blue leds around the head unit be too difficult for a novice? What about carbon fiber (to match interior)? How should i secure my sub box? Thanks in advance! I'm pretty new at this.
Amart88 Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 A 220A alt should be fine for 1400 watts as long as you have the big 3 upgrade done and proper grounds. As far as the battery, I would not use the stock battery with an XS battey as the stock one has a lower resting voltage and will likely leech off of the XS battery. I am not a fan of Isolators. You would be better off replacing your stock battery with the largest XS that would fit. Which is the XS Power D2400 for you car. http://4xspower.com/bci_group/24F/ The second skin B-stock is the exact same product as the regular. It's just that some peices may have inconsistencies in the adheisive or it may be a bit harder to remove the backing. Other than that they are both excellent. naughtyca Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 I agree isolators are used if you will be running your sound system for a long period of time with the car turned off. big alternator should always have a big 3 done.
Crandis16 Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 Your car doesn't support double DIN HUs? It could get tricky if you have to relocate buttons or climate control stuff. But other than that, if you have the right tools and equipment then it's do-able. Just takes some thought beforehand of how you plan on making everything work right. Laine Posted April 23, 2013 Author Report Posted April 23, 2013 Thank you everyone. Can't wait to start the install! As soon as all this snow clears I'm going to go to work on this car. Already have the wires for the big three from previous install. I plan on upgrading the stock radio system with a single din unit, hopefully this wont disrupt my climate controls and from what I read I will only loose voice for the navi unit and voice commands for the car (dont like to use either any way). Anyone know how to retain the steering wheel controls? The battery was ordered and on its way. As soon as I get back home, and figure out how to add pictures, I will start a build log and show everyone what my plans are. Thanks again!
