All This Processing Power, Where To Start? HU? X-Over? Amp(s)?

Recommended Posts

Currently have a Pioneer FH-P8000BT (double-DIN). http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/CD-Receivers/FH-P8000BT

I know when it really comes down to it, setting the EQ, loudness, CD SLA level, etc., is up to the listener & what "sounds good to them", but I am curious as to what the masses think about all those settings that Pioneer - & other manufacturers? - incorporate into their HU's.

How many of you use the Loudness setting? Do you just the Low setting? Pioneer has Low, Mid, & High. Ugh.

What about subwoofer settings? At what frequency? Pioneer goes 50, 63, 80, 100, & 125Hz. Double Ugh.

There is even a separate "volume" setting for when CD is the source called "CD SLA", & it goes from -4 through 0 & on up to +4. Do I crank it to +4? +3?

There is even another setting for a separate Bass Boost ... I do not know at what freq it is boosting at ...

And, of course, a 7-band EQ: Sitting here I believe it is approx: 50, 125, 315, 500, 800, 12.5KHz ... something along those lines ... I know I am missing one. Sorry.

Finally, Pioneer has something called an "Advanced Sound Retriever".

Then to go along with that, any set of components worth their weight in salt have pin switches to set a small amount of increase in the db's for the tweeter, ... Mine are +5, flat, or -4 or 5 (I forget). Should I leave a passive x-over flat & tune the system through the electronics?

Guess where else there are a ton of settings these days in modern equip.? These amplifiers are LOADED with hi & low passes & then picking what freq to cut off at, then subsonic filters, etc. Should MORE tuning come from the amplifiers, or from the HU's?

I really, really look FWD to as many of you folks as possible to to help me, & maybe some others who are like me, to understand where I (they) can find the best way to tune their systems when there are so many points in which to tune from.

Thanks,

Zeke
