Hello SMD Forums!

I am looking for some opinions on a ported box i designed for a SA-8 D4 V2 subwoofer.

It will be powered for now with an Alpine MRP-M500 pushing 500w @ 2ohms but from what i've read i should get something with a better sub-sonic filter this amp only has a 15 hz filter

I have an area about 21x13x13 to use and this is the box i would like to put it in.

SA-8D4V2PortedBox_zps7a412be5.jpg

It's about 0.62 ft cubed after sub & port displacement if i did my math right.

I don't want or need it to hit the super low gut wrenching bass i just want it to hit a little lower than the Alpine 12" Type S in a sealed bassworx box i am currently using.

What do you folks think? given the criteria i have, is this what i should be putting it in?

Thank you advance for suggestions and opinions.

Ditch the RE box calculator and download Torres calculator. Much better IMO.

The Re one is off every time I have checked it.

here is my suggestion. box internal net volume of .75

port height 7 in

port width of 2 in

port length of 37.8 in

if its not possible to squeeze this in your max dimensions i will design a different with an aeroport. just let me know!

SD, thank for the input. I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . .

First a thank you to all who have replied so far.

I would like to keep the dimensions under the 21x13x13 i am allowing myself with a slot port tuned to aboot (Canadian joke there, eh?) 38 hz.

I'm just curious why 38?

Could not give you an honest answer.

I basically just went a little lower than my sealed 12" is supposed to do and the suggestion of 35 on the website.

I figured that would give me a decent balance of SQ and SPL.

Never built a ported box before, this is all new to me.

i would go like 1 cube net... drop tuning a tad. closer to 35hz.

yes. most sq guys shoot for about a 29Hz tuning spl guys shoot for the peak of the car(usually between 42 and 60). from my experience with this sub and what you want i would go with 35Hz also.
