brent379 Posted April 24, 2013 Report Posted April 24, 2013 I might have found a HO alt for my car!!! Dc makes a 180...250...and 270 amp available. Will a 250-270 amp alt cause my alt belt to slip??? If so can I just buy a smaller belt or tighten it more and be ok?? I only have a 5 ribbed belt and I'd hate to burn up a 600$ alternator...

And it is expensive but I have the money right now so I might as well buy an alternator that's gonna take the abuse... I will only be running 1 aq2200d for right now... I'm gonna give dc power a call tomorrow and talk to them and if the belt situation will be easy to over come I'm buyin the 270!!! And I'm slapping a d3400 under the hood with the big three done in knuconceptz OFC 0 gauge... So I'm pretty sure I can afford to lose a little at idle and not have to worry about hurtin the 2200d lol

So I'm pretty sure I can afford to lose a little at idle and not have to worry about hurtin the 2200d lol belt wrap is how much of the belt is making contact with the alt pulley at any given time. the less belt wrap you have, the more prone you will be to belt squealing/slipping since the alt gets harder to turn when you put big loads on it. not enough belt wrap = not enough friction to prevent slip
