lowchevy94 Posted May 7, 2013 Report Posted May 7, 2013 This is my first post so go easy on me but need your help....i have a 94 chevy ext cab looking to put 3 or 2 lvl3 15's (no wall) in a ported box just under the window with a 3.5k amp w/ extra battery and upgrade the alternater.. Im looking to compet but also be my daily.. What will be better to put number up 2 15's or 3 15'? and am i on the right track?? my budget is about 3,000. please let me know if this is a good setup. ChaseB Posted May 7, 2013 Report Posted May 7, 2013 Cone area is king. In theory 3 15's would be louder, but in order to make 3 15's louder then 2 15's, you have to have the right electrical or else 2 15's are going to be louder then 3 15s, if you get where I'm going (voltage drop)

Not sure on exact prices of lvl3 15's, but depending on any upgrades to them their around 1/3 of your budget. Then depending on brand of 3.5k amp , alternator and batteries that's just over another 1/3. So that leaves you with less than a $1000 for head-unit, wire, mid/highs/coaxial , assorted instal accessories. (solder, heat shrink, wire ends, fuses, ect.)

Not to sure about the alternator stuff yet but I would say look at a 250 amp alt or higher along with that I would think 2 or 3 runs of 1/0 gauge. There is also sky high's 2/0 out. I would say tune the box to around 35hz. As for number of subs I would say stick with two if no wall. Each 15 needs 3 cubic feet of space after port displacement and sub displacement. Do you think you could fit a 9 cube box with it under the window line? I don't have anything yet I going to go to a shop to get everything installed I was just debating on how many sub to get. I am going to upgrade the battery under the hood and get an extra one also they are going to be XS Batteries.. with the 2 subs what numbers you think ill be close to hitting
Krakin Posted May 8, 2013 Report Posted May 8, 2013 No one will be able to tell you how loud you will be. Every single setup is completely different. Gear is every changing and car acoustics affect sound a lot. But to be honest I would not go to a shop. You obviously have quite a bit of interest in car audio making an account and going through the trouble of all this. If you do it yourself, starting with a little bit less, you will learn an insane amount about your car while being able to make sure the job is done right. You will have a tough time at the beginning of your build, you will hate it and want to quit. But in the end when you get it all done you will feel an immense amount of pride in something you did yourself. Plus you have the knowledge base of all the members here on this forum for every time you hit a rough spot. This is an amazing community that have people go out of their way to help random people that they have never met. Sorry if that was long winded, but I have seen quite a few people on here keep throwing money at shop after shop and never getting the job done right. Just to end up redoing every thing themselves in the long haul. Edit: not trying to say that there are not shops out there that are great. But that that the thrill of doing it yourself is worth the time you put in it. will77530 Posted May 8, 2013 Report Posted May 8, 2013 i have a 98 ext cab with a single 15 doing a 43 at 28hz.... it all comes down to the box and the install, after i build my next box there will be no room for a second fifteen, so asking which will be better is kind of pointless

I thought about doing it myself but this is my first big system don't trust myself yet..lol...The shop that ill be going to he goes to competition and places. So I guess he knows what to do... I just want to compete on the lower level I don't wanna go extreme cause its gonna be my Daily driver

Once again not trying to bash on shops because their are a lot of reputable ones out their. But if you have seen their work and like it then I don't see too much a problem.
