New Build. 3 15" Sundown SA-15`s BMW Wagon

Hey Everyone,

Been lurking for a long time, decided to make my first post. I have a BMW 325I Sport Wagon, My last system consisted of two 15 inch Kicker Solobaric
L7`s, but I tore the tensile leads on both of them, repaired them once with new leads, and tore them again. I decided to retire them and try something new.

I purchased three 15 inch Sundown SA-15`s, and Im quite sure they will do the Job.

As you can see from the pics on google, since I don't have a truck, I had to have Lowes pre-cut most of the wood for me, just so I could get it home.
I Drew up the design for the box in google sketch up, and then used it to create a cut sheet. Once I got the wood home, the toughest part was cutting the angles because all of my wood working tools are in storage, so I had to wing it.

The last pic shows the box with the top finally on, drying, with damping material inside, but i pulled the damping material back out, to add more bracing tonight, so there is actually much more bracing than what is shown in the last photos.

I didnt have much room in the car for a ported box, so instead of having two 15`s ported, I decided to do three sealed instead. I prefer sealed anyway because of the type of bass I listen to, I dont want slow or sloppy drops, and wanted to keep bandwidth and rolloff as wide as possible as well.

Sundown calls for 2.5 cubes per. I ran the T/S perams through winisd with the required 7.5 cubes and liked the outlook, but since I decided to not chamber the box, and since all 3 subs are firing in the same hole, I decided to up the cubes a bit to maybe lower the pressure a bit, and reduce the power required.

I ended up with 8.3 cubes after displacement and bracing, and after running the numbers, it looks like its going to have a nice and smooth rolloff just where I want it to be.

Now that the top is on and drying, I will wait until tomorrow. Tomorrow I will remove any remaining screws and finish sanding all edges and seams, then finish filling all seams and screwholes with putty, then a grind down, and lastly sand with 120 then 600. Hopefully I can get it painted tomorrow night, (depends on how long it takes the putty to dry). If not then prep tomorrow, paint saturday...

Yeah, stay tuned, this will be interesting, if nothing more than just seeing my reaction when these things stomp a mudhole in my old kickers.. I am an old schooler, so I grew up with Iasca stuff, Ive used kickers my whole life, except for the time that I played with JL audio for a bit. Once you get set in your ways, you tend to stay there. After tearing up my L7`s twice, I decided to open my mind up and try something new. I watched countless videos on sundown, and was quite impressed with their products, especially for the price.

Once I get it done here in the next couple of days, Ill get it tuned up (amp, crossover, and wiring are all still intact, so just have to drop this box in and go) , then ill post a video on youtube and link it here. Im going to try and do the video with my condenser mic and see if that gives a little better idea of the sound, at least better than the build in mic on the camera lol.

By the way, here is a video of a quick bump of the old Kicker L7`s before they blew again,,,in the wal mart parking lot while I was waiting on my wifey.

This was right after I had repaired the leads on the subs. As you can see from the video I usually kept my sunroof open because i was afraid that the roof flexing would damage it.

The roof flex is probably my favorite thing in the world. lol.

Anyway, Im pretty stoked about the Sundowns, I mean, what I had (for a daily driver) was loud as you can see,,, but now I am very excited to see what these new Sundown bad boys will do.
