Unfortunately, the box is too big and won't fit in my truck without 2 of the back seats folded down. I was looking to get a custom box made so that it would fit nicely in the back, and I could have a full row of seats. I contacted a guy about building me a custom box, and his price seems a bit high. This is the info I sent him, and his response. How much would you charge for a box like this, or how much did you pay for yours? Btw I am new to car audio, so I have no idea. You need 1.5 per sub 4 subs per side with divider for strength and support. 2 ports 1 per 4 subs using that your looking at 12 cu ft net after subs and ports added will make gross box volume 16 cu ft .. So your box can be a little smaller something around 49 wide 37.5 deep and 18 tall would be good ... Bare build this size enclosure For 8 12s Glued, nailed and screwed all holes filed in sanded routed I dont do anything besides bare or Rhino lined $475 bare $575 rhino lined This is a very low price for this size of enclosure .. Im just doing a few specials this month. Typical cost would be $675 for this size.
Nate Futuristic Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 locally a the shop wanted 500+ for 4 15s built with birch and fully carpeted its more about the labor than cost depending on the shop down rpping vanderbilt. 30 miles from victoria. i own the 3rd loudest setup here out of 3. but i did put together all 3 setups ^^ Cant wait to swalllow Ghost's babies
TeamHT Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 This is my take...this is what that guy thinks is acceptable for his time. If you cannot do it, then you pay for it to be done. Sometimes I hate seeing people haggle over the price of work. If you think it's expensive, do it on your own. Now that I've said that...I wouldn't use him, lol. Pay for a legit design with a cut sheet, go to Lowe's/Home Depot and get it cut and put it together yourself. Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?
RobertR Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Welcome to the forums.... Personally I would build it myself. The money you would save is enough by itself. Plus the added bonus of pride and knowledge that comes with it. You will have a fair amount of cash left over so if you dont like the box you built, build another one. The box you are wanting seems pretty straight forward. 6 (or 7 if you double baffle) of 3/4" to 1" thick mdf, some aero's and a little bit of bracing and your done. There are plenty of people here that have done it a hundred times and are more then happy to walk you through it if you need help. All you have to do is ask. So if your not impressed with the first one, and get some pointers on building another one, you can make improvements, but with advice on here as long as you follow directions specifically, it should sound badass on the first try
