For this sub I would just center the coil in the gap so it gets maximum movement in both directions before either touching the back plate or exiting the magnetic gap.

I want to, but I'm concerned about the xmech to the back plate. If I actually center the coil, I'll only have about 0.9" of clearance to the back plate, and the coil will still be in the gap even if the former bottoms out lol...... So would it be better to increase the gap so that I can position the coil a fair bit higher? Also because of the wide roll cone I'm going to want the longer xmech to be able to utilize it and make up for the lost cone area? And I still can't help but think the loss might be a problem later when inductance and emf build up.

If I'm still on track here with what your saying(how to increase space between basket and motor, in simple terms) Fi used some simple little plastic spacers on my SSD10. Sure, not a crazy powerful neo motor, but it works for what it is. Maybe just some 1/4+ inch steel spacers with longer bolts? Would provide extra cooling on the upper part of the coil.

Might not even be what y'all are talking about now, i don't even fucking know anymore. Go pound some ass, let the ideas come to you, then apply them.

Lol, no it's not how to do it anymore. It's whether or not I should increase the top plate thickness to make the gap thicker so that it's stronger, would allow the coil to be positioned a little higher and increase xmech, and help to reduce the amount of loss and stray field that I have now. If I do it, I was planning on sunning one of the cooling rings from sundown since the width of them looks like the perfect size for what I need, but I asked jacob for dimensions to be sure.

If you move the coil up, it will leave the gap sooner.

Fix one issue, causes another.

Is this a 4" coil? I'm sure it's been said before but I can't remember and am too lazy to look it up.
