No it wouldn't mess with the vc as its not connecting to anything on the actual coil its just a long peice of copper wrapped around itself plus they either glue or tape the coil

My bro (crew chief in air force) said ppe could work but he's more familiar with ptfe (the stuff I mentioned earlier) although most commonly ptfe is used as thread sealer its still self lubricating and has a very low coefficient of friction and extremely heat resistant around 400f temp (straight from his mouth ) anyone want a brother??? wow how did I not think of ptfe. we literally just talked about this the other day when we were talking about wan der waal IMF forces.........................

But, would the PTFE possibly run? Or would it be bale to hold up in the gap??

From what I understand it should hold (considering my bro uses it every day on c130 engines) especially if you use the tape form better known as teflon tape widely used in plumbing but if you're vc has an aluminum core (the thing the copper is wrapped around, don't know if I used the right terminology or not) you could find a way to do this:

a way to bond Teflon resin to an aluminium pan - a non-trivial task, given the material's non-stick properties. The aluminium was first etched with acid so it became pitted and then PTFE powder was heated on the surface so that it bonded to the scarred metal.

That's how the first ever non stick pan was made from aluminum and teflon

Lol, for your time's sake I think you can skip the explanations of the basic components of a subwoofer (i.e a former) :D :D I have the weirdest feeling I just might know what that is from some long ago subwoofer project hahahahaha :D

As for the tape idea, yeah we use it at work all day long, but I think that would be a weird application as far as the gap goes? If one edge came up wouldn't that ruin the whole thing pretty quick? Also, although the "core" (former) you're referring to is aluminum, it's been anodized, and it's covered with wire and paper, I don't think that process would work because it can't make direct contact with the aluminum. So it would have to be on the magnet center pole, or the top plate. I like the idea of tape though, if I could get it to stay flat without ripping.

Should have made the gap bigger, you should be able to fit 3 pieces of film paper on each side otherwise it's just gonna rub/scratch/ etc

Also with a gap that tight if you have any odd shapes above or below (in front of or behind)the speaker the cone will disform and bend to conform to that shape, this can also cause the coil to rub

I would recommend shims as well

As to the cone effect your talking about, that's why I'm doing multiple levels of spiders instead of one triple joint in efforts to increase linear motion, as well as using really stiff linear roll spiders compared to looser progressive roll spiders. If you will also notice, my coil is not very long throw like other high powered 18's that might need a gap slightly larger.

But most importantly, from the start, and repetitively throughout I have mentioned this is all about achieving maximum force from the motor. A tighter gap is obviously one of the most key factors when considering this.

Spiders won't help you in a situation where the cone is under a ton if pressure (from a lot of power) and actually starts to change shape to conform to what's directly in front of it or behind it, A tighter gap will only shot it faster because it will take less non linear motion to then come in contact with the pole or magnet....

Team AA subs have an extremely tight gap!!! It's very similar to what you have... (I lost track but I beleive only difference is yours is a 3 inch coil)

Called him today, left a message. Hopefully he responds soon, I really want to get it soon and try it out. You know anything about it? The ceramic capacitors I've used were the flim form, not paper. Is it the same thing as normal paper, but with less friction or what?
