Miguels Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 you need to make sure youre not clipping.. even if you have a 2000 rms sub on a 500 rms amp. clipping it will destroy the coil my logshttp://www.stevemead...-my-new-set-up/my blow through loghttp://www.stevemead...future-updates/ 96 ss http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164094-96-impala-ss-build/
Joe X Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 Well since I did this I was planing on selling the empty box on craigslist an building one out ta 3/4 birch so that's straight, I'm just wanting to be sure that if I drop a few hun on a single 18 it ain't gonna smoke lol. Post your max dims for a box to tell you what can fit.
lokki Posted May 27, 2013 Author Report Posted May 27, 2013 clipping? aint that when you crank it to loud and the amp starts cuttin in and out?

cloud77 Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 Go to a single sub setup sealed and save yourself some headaches. It will take up less room. Look into Fi Q or SSA XCON 2004 Grand Prix GT (2) 12" RE XXXs (04/05 XBL^2) 5 cu. ft tuned @ 35 Hz MMATS HD4000.05 MMATS SQ4100 Infinity Kappa components Juice Box black cherry Duralast platinum group 34 1/0 KNU OFC, 2/0 welding Singer 250A
lokki Posted May 27, 2013 Author Report Posted May 27, 2013 just checked out that FI Q18... but its only 1500 rms. is that a smart move on a 2k watt amp? i know it prolly aint pushing a full 2k but at 350 a piece for a sub thats a hell of a chance
Joe X Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 Yes you can do a 18" easily in those dims, the Fi SP4 would be almost impossible to blow with that amp. Set the gains right anyways.

Look into Fi Q or SSA XCON single sub yea id like a 18 but i aint too worried bout space.i'd like to do a widow firing box port off the front bottem going under the seats (gotta love vans) and be tuned mid 30's
cloud77 Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 Whats your electrical like? batteries? Wire brand? I doubt that amp puts out rated anyway, but you're still going to need to upgrade your electrical like it would put out rated. If you purchase Q, BL, XCON, or even 2 ssds, or 2 FI X, you can salvage the sub if you blow it with a recone, not just throw it in the garbage like those boss subs. I owned a pre-09 FI Q and it took 1700 and didn't get warm. Its all about the install, but music is so dynamic that you have to prepare your electrical for it either way. 2004 Grand Prix GT (2) 12" RE XXXs (04/05 XBL^2) 5 cu. ft tuned @ 35 Hz MMATS HD4000.05 MMATS SQ4100 Infinity Kappa components Juice Box black cherry Duralast platinum group 34 1/0 KNU OFC, 2/0 welding Singer 250A
