COLTON94 Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 Oh the joys of sanding. I honestly hope my component set can keep up with my sub stage after i amp it just so i dont have to do and fiber glass work.
scooter99 Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 Just as a thought, after you've gone through all this work, I've seen that in the GMC's and Chebby's that the vent on the dash is like the first thing to go. What about getting some billet one's made or making your own out of wood or something. I'd hate to see you go through all this work and then have them break from the bass. Just a thought. Keep up the good work man. You're honestly making me want to rip out my dash in my truck!!! She's old and needs lots and lots and lots of tlc!! Facebook Page: S99Creations 2006 F250 Lariat Build
goodvibez Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 Yes I have given that a thought and doing some billet grill material would be pretty cool but we will see. I know this thing wont be like steve mead or sky high level and wont be rattling it to pieces lol! but Like you said I dont want to do all of this and have something like that happen Already have some breaks on the passenger side. So I think I got a solution but I'm going to do some testing and stuff before I cut anything. should work pretty good...if it works more on that tonight if all goes as planned! Funny how the people who have a louder system than you will usually give you a compliment about your setup because they know how much blood, sweat, time, and money you put into it. The people who criticize or try and one up you....have a p.o.s to no system at all and will tell you all about this "other" guys system! Saddley I'm sure if I meet this "other" guy...he will probably tell me he thinks your just as annoying as I think you are! I'm not compensating, just proud of fabricating! scooter99 Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 Another thought would be to cut out all that plastic and use the expanded metal mesh and attach it somehow from behind, or even just screw it in from the top, and the body fill over the screw holes. Or something like that. But then paint the grill black, or grey, and you'll be home free. Should actually strengthen the dash too in that area, being metal and all. I'd prefer that metal that has the holes in it, vs the diamond look, but I think you get the idea. Speaking of Meade, what he has in the lexus trunk is what i'm thinking. goodvibez Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 Man stealing the ideas right out of my head! Yeah I'm watching some perforated metal right now on ebay But what I'm going to try is using the metal mesh from the factory speaker grills in the door panels and see if I theres enough to do all three vents because I still have my old door panels so i have a few grills to use for material. I might try to cut up some mdf pieces and possibly "stamp it" to the shape I want so that the grill material is somewhat flush with the dash...kinda hard to explain but if all works the way I think it will then ill have pictures to show.... Yeah I like the stuff mead used on the lexus...looks good Funny how the people who have a louder system than you will usually give you a compliment about your setup because they know how much blood, sweat, time, and money you put into it. scooter99 Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 I'm right with you buddy! I know exactly where you're going with it. I'm in!! Facebook Page: S99Creations 2006 F250 Lariat Build
goodvibez Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 So did some quick measurments and looks like those speaker grills have enough material to use so i think that's the rout I'm going with this is going to be a bit of work but i think it will pay off. Oh the joys of sanding. I honestly hope my component set can keep up with my sub stage after i amp it just so i dont have to do and fiber glass work. Me too man because Im just glad with these doors i was able to do what i did insured of fiber glassing a whole door lol i think I'm going to try my hand at doing a full on odoor with old set just for fun! But not till my trucks done Funny how the people who have a louder system than you will usually give you a compliment about your setup because they know how much blood, sweat, time, and money you put into it. goodvibez Posted March 28, 2014 Report Posted March 28, 2014 Soo decided to keep the momentum going on the dash and as mentioned earlier fix the windshield vents....so heres what I did. Took my old speaker grills and cut out some flat spots so I could use the metal mesh Took body saw and started cutting out the plastic Filled in the ends with some kitty hair because the very ends arent even used, well hardly...very little air comes out the ends...mostly the middles but I didnt have enough material to cover the whole thing so I shrunk both sides down. drivers side had already been shrunk from when I installed the speaker in the dash so basically I matched the passenger side to that....if that makes sense? Did the backside for some more strength So after sanding all the old insides out of the grill opening I made me a template out of 1/4" mdf Then a negative out of 3/4" Put the two together and Presto!....get it "press" toe...lol its late I crack myself up haha. But that wasnt enough I needed it to be more ....embossed? if thats the right word? So went back to my work and used a real vice! Grabbed a bunch of washers to give me the added depth I needed This things was soooo much easier...also have a nice hydrolic press but its outside with no lighting and it was cold and dark so this worked fine...much better than my unmounted vice lol! Much better! Here I'm just holding it close, I need to trim it down and it fill bring it up quite a bit hopefully flush like I wanted but yeah that's the idea just need to do it two more times, I may be able to just flip this one for the opposite side and the middle on is perfectly square so that wont be hard...but its midnight and time for bed I'll hit this up more tomorrow!
