Yea I'm pretty sure a good portion of the informative stuff i put up right b4 the switch got butt-raped into a cyber black hole, but so it goes.

The A/C Epic mics are about 4-5db DOWN from a TL.

One major diff no one ever mentions w/ the TL/Epic comparison is that the EPIC mic is MOUNTED IN THE CENTER OF THE DASH 90%+ of the time.

Thus for a true "FAIR" comparison you'd have to put your TL mic in the same spot the EPIC mic is and we all know how big a difference mic placement can make.

I'M NOT SAYING IT WILL MAKE A HUGE DIFF FOR SURE BUT SOEMTHING TO CONSIDER THAT I'VE NEVER EVEN HERAD MENTION OF IN THIS EPIC VS. TL DEBATE.

The other issue is the Epic mics are NOT adjustable like a traditional A/C mic (AC-160, 180, 190etc) which have a sensitivity "rectifier" to "even the feild" or "adjust" for...variance? I dunno.

I can consistently get nearly 150db outta my Epic-160 (mounted center/under head unit) and I'm around 145db PEAK/burst on a TL (windsheild/dash) and range 140db+AVERAGE/over 2min on music.

Thanks for sharing that man. I would share my experiences to but there isn't a TL near me.

Good point about the placement and sensitivity...people rag on the EPIC but it's a darn good mic for the price and features...it's not a TL but for less than 1/3 the cost of a TL it's good enough for me...

NP man My goal is to have some usefull info to add here...I geneerally won't post post if I don't.

I personally only list my Epic scores for those who have an A/C mic as their BASE/standard so we can hopefully all get on the same page.

I don't really put a lot of "validity" or "truth" in an A/C mic that IS NOT an EPIC-150/160 etc since the A/C-160 THRU 190 have sensitivity adjustments (all of them from what I have seen/heard-i.e. never personally played w/an a/c-190) and you can just adjust it until you have your "ideal score".

I only use my Epic160 to tune my car for MAX db, since it's all relative anyhoo, the loudest my car can be on my epic 160 mic should,in theory be the same as the loudest it can be on a TL so it's great tool to tune and find your peak, but you just have to keep in mind it's -5db or so from a TL so you don't go sayin you have a louder setup than you really do or get disappointed/embarrassed at a comp after claiming you did such and such and can't come close on TL.

If i said I have a 150db setup....that would be true assuming you are gonna meter it w/ an A/C mic w/ sensitivity the same as my epic 160.

I have guys come into my shop all the time saying they have an ###db setup and I ask "what kinda mic was that on" and they have no clue what I'm talkin about, so i ask em to bring it by and if they do it's almost ALWAYS the case of mistaking an A/C score for a TL.

The TL is no joke. Hard ass mic to score on and My hat is OFF AND ON THE FLOOR for anyone who hit's 150+.... Tha'salottaDBEEEEEZ!

My goal is get over the 150db hump on a TL & I'm DONE.

That'll be my daily and I'll be "safely" able to say I can sh*t on anyone I come across on the streets/local comps (Assuming Steve is retiring the Hoe from comps for reallies)

yeah, that 159.7 DB was super port wars but I also hit 146.7 DB under the dash!
