obsidian 18 or 15

im wanting to get some obsidian audio gear and was wanting to know how much performance increase there is from the 15 to 18. i ask this question because they wont have 18s again for another 4 months. 15 inch v2s are coming out soon. i would like to get 2 18s or 2 15s. they will be in a low tuned box in a wagon so space shouldnt be an issue. any comments would be nice. i dont want to wait that long if the 15s will be close to the 18s

Being the same 2.5" motor and 20 xmas the only advantages on the same power in cone area

So everything will come down to box and power available

And I wouldn't recommend over power them

The way I would decide witch to get

in what order is

1. space available

2. Funds for amp and subs as a hole

So how much space and power do you have

(Measurement will help)

Have you thought about 3 or 4x15(3x 15=2x 18 in cone with 50% more motor force and power)

ty for the reply i will measure it out today. i have thought about going with 3 to 4 of them. i just wasnt sure how much of an increase in spl it would create.

as long as you can supply them with the correct power and airspace it will alway be louder

Ok i measured to to recommended specs i can go with 3 15s or 2 18s. the maximum box space i have is 14 ft3. would it be better to utilize this space with a more powerful woofer like the fi ssd series or would i be utilizing the space just fine with 2 obsidian 15s. im not trying to do a versus post or anything. just want advice. its mainly a question about power handling and cone area for the space given. any suggestions are welcome.

two 18's for 14 cubes I say. After port and sub displacements that should put you in the ~12 cube net range.

I vote two 18's. I'm not sure about the 18's, but my 15's do somewhat laugh at my Sundown SAE1200D. So I'd try to get as big a box as possible if you're running them at rated.

Idd let your power deceid now between 3x 15 or 2x 18

Idd do 3x 15 on 1.5-2k

Or 2x 18 on 1-1.5k

And if your chasing spl the extra power will give you a bit more

thanks for the advice guys i will try to decide on it in the next month or so. i hear good things about several models of woofers so im not narrowing out any of them right now. i will just see what i can do with my budget. but either way 3 15s or 2 18s should do at least something lol. once again thanks to the smd members and keep on helping on.
