NOOBER78 Posted July 4, 2013 Author Report Posted July 4, 2013 You're not even giving us a brand or model. Price isn't everything, please give us specifics and you can get real opinions outside of the need to make a sale Who says you don't have room for a ported box with those 15's? Bet if you got creative it would fit, and you can use aeroports to save room too, what are you building in dude? All I read was a brand pushing shop was downing something they didn't fully understand to talk up their own product selection. I've heard low end limes from these internet brands that would put mid to mid upper range of those brands you listed to absolute shame. You wanna talk real talk? Go get some demos from people running those cheaper brands. Go to some shows. You'll see where the sound truly is. As with "Most" shops there going to try and get you to buy certain stuff.. What makes them the most $$$ You could get low end stuff from really good brands, and get top end stuff from ok brands and get about the same thing from it. It mainly depends on what your price range is and what you like.. also what fits in your car.. help us out here.. whats your price range.. electical look like? what kind of car is it going in.. and are there any brands you prefer or like the look of? I didn't mention any models cause I have seen when people say models they get told no vs threads even tho sometimes its not a vs post just a noob looking for info like me so I can make a better decision on what I spend my money on.. I have 2 x 15 alpine type r 750wrms dual (2Ω + 2Ω) running off a alpine pdx 1000 at 2ohm in a sealed box. box dimensions are L32" x H18" x W15" not sure on the cubes but was told it was built to alpine specs for s sealed box..So according to specs the 15s are under powered being there maybe seeing maybe 500 wrms each ..Stock alt ,big 3, 1 d6500 batt.. The box for the 15s can barely fit into the opening of the trunk and its actually easyer to put the box in and the subs into box after its in the trunk due to the height of the box... The trunk dimensions are 32 x 32 x 18 if I make a false floor I could get 41 x 32 x 17 but still have the issue of getting box into the opening depending on the box and its going into a 2009 Chrysler 300.. So maybe I could just 2 x 1000 1ohm stable amps and feed them more power ? or sell the setup to a friend and start from scratch. The equipment that was recommended to me at the shops because I was told when you take away cone area you have to replace it with power 2 x Amps 1 per sub JL Audio HD1200/1 Alpine PDX M12 Audison LRx 1.1k Hertz HDP1 2 x 12" subs JL Audio w6/w7 Alpine Type X Hertz Millie Rockford T2D412 Ported Box not sure type There is no one around me that carries or runs anything than main stream stuff like these so I cant listen to anything outside of the box it sucks...I like the look of the Sundown, Skar, etc and I don't mind what was recommended but I think I could achieve a louder system for a fraction of the price than what was recommended hopes this helps..
Swampy Posted July 4, 2013 Report Posted July 4, 2013 My best advice to you is to read read read. You can never learn too much about car audio, and it sounds like you have a ways to go. Like the other guys said, as long as your electrical is up to par, the overall output of the system will heavily rely on the install. Typically, it goes something like this: -Someone buys expensive gear, -Installs it wrong or takes way too many shortcuts, -System doesn't sound like they thought it would -They get angry and start blaming the gear instead of asking what went wrong. FYI, shops are usually bogus. I think of a shop a lot like a woman...typically all they want is your money, so everything they say will be tailored to make you think spending all of your money is okay. I don't claim to know how to solve anything, I just practice the basics. There is nothing worse than wasting hours over a problem that should have taken 5 mins. Anything I post and claim to know, I know simply because of a lesson learned from a mistake on my part.
TeamHT Posted July 4, 2013 Report Posted July 4, 2013 A versus thread would be comparing brands. Asking if a specific amp is worth $1,000 is not comparing until you compare it to another brand. Here's my suggestion. Give us the make and model of your car, max dimensions, where it will be installed and a budget. JL amps are great, but for something in the 1,000 watt range you van have better for much much less Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?

I will build the box and hope to get or buy a design for whatever the subs I end up buying. I would like to be under $2k but if more is required then it is.
NOOBER78 Posted July 4, 2013 Author Report Posted July 4, 2013 lol again my response is apart of a quote how do I have it separate?

NOOBER78 Posted July 5, 2013 Author Report Posted July 5, 2013 try this again lol.. I have a 2009 Chrysler 300 truck setup. Box that the 15s are in is 32 x 18 x 15 and bareley fit thru the opening of the trunk, I have to put the box in and then the subs into the box. trunk size is 41 x 32 x 18. I will build the ported box and hope to get a design or buy one for what subs i end up getting. i would like to spend under 2k for amps and subs and box
Hellbilly429 Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 You can tear the back seat out and put the box through the back seat rather than the trunk opening Trust me, there is room for a ported box in that trunk for those 15's, and Alpines are good subs 2018 Honda Civic Sport Hatchback (build in progress) NVX Sound Deadener (Front Doors) Stinger FAST Rings Stock Electrical SSA Evil 6.5's Front Speakers Stock rear speakers MB Quart ONX4.80 speaker amp Rockford Fosgate T-1500bdcp DC Level 4 12" D1 @ 2-ohm Box In Design Stage Stock RadioMy Build Log
