So I went into a few local shops to try and get some info....What they told me didn't really make sense and didn't sound correct but being a noob it could or could not be correct....I have been running for the last 5 years 2 x 15s on 1000 at 2ohm in a sealed non pre fab box and I want to go louder so from reading going to 2 x 12s on 1500-2500 at 1 ohm in a ported box should do that for me and there is no room for a ported box for 2 x 15s...So I want to re do my setup and am ready to start buying gear...I was told that switching from Alpine, JL, Kicker, Rockford, JBL, etc type/brands subs/amps to Sundown, Skar, DC, DD, FI etc type/brands that there is a difference in the type of bass that each produce and that I may not like that change in the sound....I was also told that bass is not the same in that I would be going from loud , clean and accurate to really loud unclean and not very accurate by changing type/brands/box...Also price was brought up as in " look how cheap that stuff is how can it be any good and truly put out those numbers" " if you are going to make the switch you may as well find some Dr Crankenstein with how old that technology is"....Since money doesn't grow on trees I want to make sure I don't have to re buy and re buy gear. This is not a brand vs brand it was the only way I could describe what im trying to ask and im not asking for brand recommendations...Thanks

It's all about install and then equipment.. If you build a really good box just go with what ever fits your budget on how much power and subs you want to to run

That's why they don't deliver.

Yer ass better go sit along the side of the road and wait.

You can't expect them to travel up some dirt road in a hick / back woods town. Thats how horror movies start :D

I explain things very simply and use analogies in terms of Pickles, and grape drink, pool noodles and jackhammers...if you can't put 2 and 2 together there man, There simply is not much more I can do.

^^ what he said. It's truly up to the install. anyone will tell you that. You can go spend $10,000 on gear and it sound like absolute crap or amazing. It just all depends on the install.

But what they said about bass and all, true. Each sub produces a different sounding bass as they're made differently with different materials and so on and so forth. But as far as this or that brand making "unclean" bass or whatnot? Lie. It's just a different sound. Go to a different shop and listen to similar subs. Doesn't matter what. Listen to RF subs and JL subs that are very similar. Listen to just the bass. It'll be different from one another.

Unclean comes from dirty power (look at efficiency on amps, look at electrical setup, look at all those small but important factors). Plain and simple. A box will drastically change how a sub performs. So definitely make sure it's a ported and NOT a pre-fab.

All in all, they seem to be saying anything they can to get you to buy from them and let them earn money. Not bad, as who doesn't want or need business? But they're not being honest. I go to my local shop to talk about some recommendations and they talk bad about sonic electronix (again, why not? they want my business so they earn money) but they'll be honest about how things are/sound. They don't sell a lot of things like Sundown, DC, Fi, ect obviously but if I ask them, they say. I asked them about Crescendo amps and "Very good amp, but very power hungry." True. So what they say is true for the most part but not entirely true. They're lying about why or how things are how they are so you go there and give them your business.

just look at home theatre setup, how many do you see with sealed speaker and sub setup's, youll find the answer to be very close to zero

so for some to say that as generic thing is so far from the truth,

will you be louder and cleaner, no one can tell you that without all the facts

2x 12 on 1000 ported v's 2x 15 on 1000 sealed, if there the same sub with same xmas and both in ideal installs idd say ported will be louder closer to tuning

but as not all subs are equal, either sutup could be mad better and louder,

Thanks for the help...So does it mean when I look at specs if a amp is rated 1000 on 12V VS a amp rated 1000 on 14V does this mean I have to have a 14V system to get the full rated power ? If I plan to stay 12v means I should be looking for amps with 12 rating not 14v? if everything is built well proper box , electrical system etc will a 1000 amp for 1000 dollars be better than 1000 amp for 500 dollars is it really worth double the money? I notice almost everything my local shops carry or get in all are rated at output power(RMS) @ 14.4v so like my mid amp is 150 x 4 @ 4 ohm so is it actually only putting out 90, 100, 120, etc because its on a 12 v system or do I have this all wrong in my understanding?

A 12 volt setup charges at 14 volts.

Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?

So can anyone tell me if it is worth the money or not if 1000 wrns for $1000 is or 1000wrms for $500 is good enough on the same setup with idle conditions? One thing that was told to me was "if your not paying $1 a watt your not getting a good quality performing amp"...
