Fun With T-Lines

Recommended Posts

So after reading ForevrBumpn's T-line thread (hat tip) I've decided to build a t-line for a Fosgate P1S410 I bought on Craigslist. I've always wanted to build one but I had never bothered to learn anything much about them... until I read the referenced thread.

The cabinet isn't done yet but after initial construction and testing in my truck, it's proven to be the loudest, best sounding cabinet I've ever had in the truck... even outperforming the 15" Earthquake Magma 15 I had in a 6th order BP. It may not actually be louder than that speaker was but for sure, it's a lot better sounding.

After a day of testing with the 4ohm Fosgate sub, I checked T&S on a JBL GTO pro dual 2ohm ten I have and its Fs is almost exactly the same as that of the RF... so I shoved it in the hole inverted, because it was too deep to mount conventionally. After testing with it, I've abandoned the RF driver and have added a second layer to the baffle (was planning to anyway) and now can mount the jibble conventionally.

In any event, here are some pics of progress so far....

Moved the driver hole closer to the port and test fit the Jibble...

I got the port cut out and began filling holes last night but I still need to add corner braces/deflectors and then I'll begin to play with linings and stuffings. I made the lid removable but will permanently install it once I have the box tuned properly.

And then I'll sell it, because now I'm thinking about three SA 10s or six SA 8's in similar cabinets, stacked in the back in place of the rear seat. I think I can accomplish that and still have a back glass to look out.

the only thing i could say is the sub needed to be closer to port

youll need to radius thoes bends witch i can see youve draw in

and while you have a removable top play around with throat restricters,

Elaborate please?? for my knowledge. Throat restrictor? why sub by port??

Thanks. Given that I've been a 6th order nut for a long time, this cabinet is actually smaller than the one it replaced.

Agreed. As mentioned in the OP, I've already moved the sub closer to the port and just finished installing the deflectors. I'll test run it today with the line empty and then start playing with lining/stuffing and lastly, downsizing the port about 20%.

The reason for the original driver location was that I read a write up on t-lines that recommended installing the driver 25-30% down the line in this arrangement. I don't think it was of any benefit though, as this isn't a horn. In fact, I think it added some muddiness and made the line seem shorter to the driver. I'll find out in a few minutes though...

All that said, I'm extremely happy with the performance of this cabinet so far, so things can only get better.

If I was to do mine again idd test and play around with the throat restricters as if been told they make a huge difference to the sound

If you do plane on building another have you thought about switching the port and sub around on you current design

So the sub and port still exit next to each othe on same surface but the sub fires down the length of the port, (this is when the restricters play a bigger part)

I've only built them as yours is with the subs ass nilly touching the rear wall, but if read and been told the other way is ment to be a lot better

I do plan on building another. And another and another....

And yeah, I hadn't thought about it but swapping the driver and the exit would definitely help the motor's ventilation and perhaps it would sound cleaner as well. I'll definitely try and incorporate that on the next one I build. Thanks for the idea.
