Hi guys,

My name's Mike I'm 24 and I'm from Western Australia, I've been a basshead for longer than I've been driving. I've had some pretty good systems in the past but had a bit of a hiatus from it all for a while (I think I quit 2009)

I've had this car since around October last year, but kept it fairly stock as I haven't been bothered by stereos for a long time, so the stereo that is in it right now is all basically by chance

So here's how the car looks

20121030_104736_zpsd165f76a.jpg

20121030_104802_zps55cb5b6e.jpg

From factory these cars have a fairly decent Mark Levinson/Nakamichi system, the fronts are a three way split system and quite good, so I've left them (For now) I've kept the factory headunit and just tapped into the factory subwoofer channel for my amps

20130108_125131_zps0d25ecab.jpg

So the stereo was something that just randomly happened one day, I came across the opportunity to get a Kicker Solo X 18" d1 for extremely cheap, like they were almost giving it away so before I know it I had a beasty little sub, I've always wanted an X, ever since I was in highschool, I'd read the brochures and dream of the days I could own one. It just so happened I still had a few contacts from back in my car audio days and before you knew it, I got offered another X in literally brand new in box condition, again, for dirt cheap so I said yes.

Things were getting pretty (semi) serious pretty fast, amp wise I was only going to keep it small as a simple system, then I figured why not go a little bigger and almost ordered a pair of Crescendo 5500s (or whatever they are called).

I'm lucky I didn't, because a good mate of mine was upgrading his amps and I had the opportunity to buy them for a very reasonable price!

Next thing you knew I had four DD M3a monos, each amp should be good for near on 3800wrms, so that's a hair over 15,000w total!

Things got serious fairly quick!!

This is a very brief log, but I hope you like it.

Out comes the factory monster woofer

Started mocking up the port, it's removable so I can spend a bit of time tuning it to get everything spot on

Got it dummied up inside the car

From the rear it has a huge resemblance to Steve's Tahoe, as they say the best form of compliment is to copy someone and I love his car, plus I couldn't find a better way to mount the batteries. Each battery is 130a/h each

All the cabling is Shok Industries which is fantastic to use, still need to make trim panels up but wanted to make sure it all works first.

Here is how I tapped into the factory wiring and added the line driver

Fast forward a little......

Got everything going, broke the latches and hinges that hold both rear 1/4 windows in within 10 mins of playing, this system is hurting the car :(

966655_10151964567384778_695802528_o_zps

The rear latches are electric, the whole assembly with glass costs $1800aud a side new, so did NOT want to break glass.

20130620_124637_zps08ef99a3.jpg?t=137223

I did a few more mods to the assembly and (hopefully) a little stronger, it still flexes like crazy though :(

So I put in some B Legit just to see how it plays

469144_10151575942369778_463700967_o_zps

And with a leaky port/box and windows looking like they are going to fall out and car flexing like crazy and zero testing just playing some random B Legit

Not a bad baseline to start with, but I think there's TONNES more left

Thanks for reading, more soon :)

Also wondering about suspension upgrades? Other than that looking good.

Kranny I think it should be fine as long as gains and ss filter are set sensibly.

Oh i know how a 12v system works I did take 3 years of electronics in High school hands on and some in college and also worked on cars in college an always got A's to B's in each class.

But oh well enough dealing with ppl who have probably not even lived as long as ive been into electronics!

i've just read many times that even on clean rated 5000rms, the coils just let go. manual even says for an 18 in a 5 cube box, "5000w max". assuming their peak number is double the rms, then 2500rms.

same with the "suv" 10 cube per woofer box.

edit: im not bashing anything, btw.

I see where you're coming from man. But the amps only put out as much power as you let them. (Although making the fact that he has 2 more than he needs pointless..)

All good guys :)

Appreciate the feedback.

The car has factory airbags on all four corners, self levelling and adjustable height so she takes the weight fairly well considering each sub is 56kg, there's probably five sheets of wood in the box and the batteries are 32kg each, quite a bit of weight or a mild system I guess.

Don't worry about 'bashing' the subs, I've been around long enough to know the X's limits. I'm not going to get offended guys :)

If they do happen to let go, it'll just be simply a forced upgrade. I'm partial to DD so will probably go a pair of 99Z15s.

I only got the Xs because I got them dirt cheap, if they break I won't be the least bit phased I assure you :)

Thanks everybody, still more testing and tuning, I haven't had any time playing it yet, then it's time to make it look pretty

My goal is around 155dB SPL just for fun

Thanks

Mike
