  1. Looks great guys. Steve I know your sons have always had a part in your builds and it's good to see your oldest doing his own car, is he ever going to do his own posts and write it from his perspective? I like reading your builds, they're well written and easy to follow but would be cool to see what Antheny has to say, too
  2. Such good customer service. It's great to see. I'd definitely be considering Sundown in the future.
  3. I like to think I've come a long way
  4. Perhaps publicity stunt? Saw this this morning, maybe too soon to tell?
  5. Thought I better update this, been a long while between drinks for me, been on these forums since around 2006 as you know. Been through a tonne of cars since originally posting in this thread, probably most known here from my old build with the six DD 15s back in 2008. Kinda went MIA on these forums since then, only checking them out very rarely, I find it hard to keep up because they've grown so damn much since I used to come here, plus there's always so much getting posted. Currently building a little system in my spare time just for fun in a 1995 LS400, hoping for mid 150s on music for a start whilst keeping the car looking cool. I like these forums because everyone is always so keen to see eachother's builds, not here for any technical information, just cool to talk about all different kinds of systems. Mike
  6. Awesome first car! Clean as hell too Jealous how cheap you guys gets cars, one of those here in Australia (In that conditon) Will still cost in the vicinity of $35,000-$40,000 We get ripped!
  7. Thanks everybody, didn't actually expect such a massive response. Good to see this place is still full of great positive people, keep it up. We got it playing today, not bad for a 3 day build, the idiots at Pioneer sent us the wrong coil subs, so we have four DD M3as @ 2.667ohm each so not really full power but it sounds pretty nice and moves a bit of air, check out this vid if you like, it's not the greatest we didn't have much light and doesn't do it much justice. Will get better ones soon. Will post finished build pics if anybody us keen. Mike Let us know what you think
  8. Got tonnes of pics of each step of the way if anybody wants to see all the simple stuff, just ask. If not, we'll just skip to the bigger steps. What we got done yesterday, doesn't look like much, but had to assemble every layer inside the car, cut a lot of pine bracing and make sure everything is square. not just a throw in. When you throw each layer in one at a time, the angles on the ends 'lock' together making sure it can't fall down, especially when they fit inside the pine 'stegosaurus' frame on the top and bottom, should help against flex and crap I hope. We don't have the best gear for this build but hopefully a little bit of build quality might help. Next is to put all the woofers in and wire the sucka up, chuck the front on the box and hope for 120dBs!! Mike
  9. The majority of the time was spent planning it out, calculating what angles the baffles are going to be to get the volume we want, and the surface area to fit six subs on each. This takes a lot more time that you would think, once we had it all drawn up we could calculate each angle the cuts need to be made so everything needs to fit properly, no guess work involved in here Once we had worked this out we went and selected the materials we needed, mainly a few sheets of 2400x1200 18mm MDF, and lots of 35x70 structural pine lengths. I've got copies of the original plans if anybody's curious for a look. So first we cut up the very first baffle and start arranging the subs so they all fit nice and straight and evenly spaced.. Finding the centres so that we can use the router jig... the ONLY way to cut holes. If anybody's unsure what we've done I can go back and show detail of how to set it up properly and get it all lined up proper, I just skimmed thru now as I've done a few of these builds these days. So we get the first layer around 330mm per hole, that means the subs will sit flush Just a test fit to make sure we're on the right track baby So we continue and cut the first two mounting holes.. and check to see it's all looking right Some how, we've fluked it this far so we continue to cut the final four holes in this baffle. Luckily it all lines up, yay. Then we can continue to the next three baffles, man this takes some time... So we just keep going The other three are almost identical to each but the angles are facing opposite ways and the subs have a slightly different offset to clear the side of the box... Almost there Snapped a pic of Phil modeling next to his new baffles DATS A LOTTA SUBS So next we take the new bits and sit them inside the car to check the arrangement, nothing is glued or screwed at this point, it is simply just sitting there to see if it looks good and correct. Thanks for all the armchair advice from the experts on Facebook, but yes we will be adding bracing and yes we didn't just wing the volumes and hope everything lines up... I think it sits together okay We test fitted some of the subs, luckily they are so cheap and shallow, they have no problem fitting :80 Thanks guys, comments welcome
  10. So he decided his 9918s were getting a bit boring and it was time for a change, maybe a fresh layout. It had to be built on the strictest budget so we chose entry level junk subwoofers. Hopefully a lot of these together off reasonable power should still sound okay and look cool. First step was to remove the old clamshell... she was built pretty strong. Eventually it was all out and ready to start building something else.
  11. Bob is a crazy man! He gets a new windscreen fitted after his run at most comps from what I've heard lol! Looks like his gear's changed a bit, last time I check he had 16 x Soundstream monos
  12. I never really showed much of my old front stage before I left, I was pretty much done with car audio by this time but I just had to finish what I started. I got the 6x9s as a bit of a sarcastic joke, I hate 6x9s with a passion so thought fook it why not? I was offered a choice of front stage from Digital Designs so I chose something silly, I got them as a sweet gift. Four pairs of DD CX6x9 in doors Around 1.4kwrms on front door duty 1.5 bulk packs of Dynamat Extreme in the front doors, plus some 'sneaky' bracing No need for a highpass filter, I could play White Girl full tilt with no X-over. 13. Those new 2500s are gunna cut sick Steve! Be keen to see where you stash all that extra power though. I think your previous power supply was pretty ample before, it should handle what you have in store I believe, I don't think you can fit 'physically' any more than you had stuffed in there before?
  14. Sweet steve. Much better than your first can trick. That's air movement! Have you tried opening the opposite door to your window to get the corner 'loaded up'; eg. open front passenger's door whilst tricking at driver's side. It really helped my air movement curious to see how much yours gets. Mike
