96saturnsl Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 so i have been challenged by the a hole across the street from me to build something louder than his 3 jl w3 12s. shouldnt be too hard. i was thinking about 4 12s or 2 15s or maybe something else, but i wanted suggestions first. i can spend 400 on subs and 300ish on the amp. and its going into a 2012 impala lt. so with that said, fire away guys.
bbeljefe Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 Three JL W3 12s in a football stadium? In a minivan? IN a pickup truck? In free air? How much power? What kind of cabinet are they in? What kind of electric does he have for them? Three Goldwood 12s can sound better than three JL 12s.... Facebook: facebook.com/audioanarchyllc Instagram: audioanarchyllc Youtube: youtube.com/bbeljefe
96saturnsl Posted July 24, 2013 Author Report Posted July 24, 2013 lol sorry prolly shoulda specified that. they are in a 2000 monte carlo. they get surprisingly loud. he has the big 3 a 200 amp alt and a extra batt and is only using a kicker 1500 rms amp ( not sure of the model number ). thats about it. in a prefab box it makes noise....sounds like ass lol. i dont wanna just show him i can make something better, i wanna make something that'll get the message to him that i know what im doing. so anyone have some ideas? i was thinking about 4 pioneer premier 3002d2s. i had 2 in a box a few years ago, they got pretty loud, and they are cheap. around 100 a piece actually.
CleanSierra Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 How will you be measuring the "loudness"? If it's by HIS ears, then I'd pass. He'll never admit to your install being louder. If it were me, and I was REALLY trying to prove a point, I'd use cheaper equipment than what he is running in a properly built enclosure. Couple cheap 15s like Sundown E series or something in a big, efficient box Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
96saturnsl Posted July 24, 2013 Author Report Posted July 24, 2013 ^^^^ exactly what i was going for. i wanna spend less than he did at the shop and just prove to him that some research proper planing and time invested makes all the difference. i went to school for this stuff too he doesnt believe it lol. and itll be judged on a tl when mine is completed....itll be a sad day for him lol. anyways, ive never used sundowns stuff, i wanted to but the e series is only like 300 rms isnt it? i had a fi bl at one time and about 9 months ago i got rid of my hdc3 18...shoulda kept it oh well onto bigger and better things.

96saturnsl Posted July 24, 2013 Author Report Posted July 24, 2013 ok i shoulda specified too that this car only has 22k miles on it and im still paying for it lol. not gonna hack it apart just yet. if i could i would. i like sundowns stuff but the whole only being 400rms, idk if itll be enough or not.
81000D Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 I had about 800watts going to my sundown e's daily and they took it like a champ! Loud too.
Guerra33 Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 How about the Sa Series then, 600+ clean watts. You did say about $400 on subs that should be right around your budget. 2 Sa 15's in an efficient box sounds good to me.
96saturnsl Posted July 24, 2013 Author Report Posted July 24, 2013 Sa series might not be bad. But where are ya finding them for 200 a piece? I can only find them for 235 a piece...
