Bboytaktix's 2011 Subaru STI Modest SQ build

Recommended Posts

Anyobe have input on the sub box in terms of doing fiberglass corner box vs sealed MDF cube box?

Think I'm leaning towards starting with a sealed box right behind the rear seat to one side, and then in the corner trunk space I'll make a sort of amp rack and MDF cover with a piece of plexiglass, simple and effective and probably will cost less (and less time) than fiberglassing.

Nice ride. I love the WRX !

Go ported for the enclosure. Use an aeroport to save space.

That car cleaned up very well. Love the car, also just start with whatever you are more comfortable with for the box. Fg would save you more space but it also takes up alot of time. I will be watching to see what you decide

thanks man. I will give it thought, however fiberglass is harder to come by here and it isn't cheap either! Right now I'm thinking on ideas of how I could make a sealed MDF setup look real nice with an amp rack, all while saving most of my trunk space :D

thanks man! it's actually a WRX STI but yeah they are awesome cars :D

As for ported, the reason I am going sealed is because it takes much less space, and apparently these subs perform very well in sealed enclosures, and they only need 0.75-1 ft^3. If I were to go ported I'd need at least 1.75ft^3 and that's starting to be a big box. Plus I won't have port tuning to do lol

thanks for the comments though guys, keep em coming! I THINK my rear speakers came in, since I got a package notice in my mail box. I'll find out tomorrow when I pick the package up :D Although I have no more sound deadener!

Why not use that very forward section of the trunk thats against the seat for the sub box and glass the amps into the sides.should be a easy 1 cube box if its enough mounting depth

Yes that's pretty much exactly what I was thinking. The sub is almost ten inches deep though. But yeah plan was to use one side of the back of fold down seats for the box and then the amps I could mount in the corner and just out a nicely cut mdf piece to cover them with a piece of plexiglass. This way, I will still have access to the other seat to fol it down to fit ski equipment etc. In the winter

Now just waiting on the subwoofer. Shipped out thursday via UPS, but then yeaterday evening it ran into an exception, "The commercial invoice is missing and is required for export" GRRR! Looks like it may take a bit longer than planned to get it. Whatever, I still have lots of work to get done in the meantime.

Going to run all the wires tonight (battery to trunk for power, RCA cables from head unit to trunk, and speaker wire) so at least that will be done :D

Got some wiring ran this weekend. Took a while but it's quite clean. Here's a few shots;

started by putting the fuses on the fuse box for later...and realized there is a 0-gauge in (cool) but only two 4-gauge out (I want to run 0-gauge out to the mono amp)...should I order an adapter for like $15 or just strip a bit of extra off the 0-gauge until it fits in the 4-gauge output?? I don't think I'll lose any power that way since most of the wire will be in contact with the block (correct me if my logic is wrong);

IMG_00000635_zps17111ab9.jpg

Decided to run the 0-gauge from the side of my battery, down into the fender panel and into a decent size grommet behind the driver side fender panel. 0-gauge is NOT easy to fit through a grommet!!

IMG_00000640_zps98c41e84.jpg

IMG_00000642_zpsdd101439.jpg

Since the wire was passing from the engine bay down to the grommet behind the fender, it was touching the edge of some sheet metal. I took extra precaution by running wire loom on the length of that wire (from grommet into engine bay);

So that was done, then I ran the power wire down and back in the driver side door liner. At the same time, I ran the front and rear door speaker wire for driver's side with the power wire. Now, one way I can tell that this Subaru is a solid car is the way that they engineered a sort of wire conduit where the carpet ends, right under the door sill. It was extra easy to attach my wiring to the existing wiring and fit nicely under the white wire conduit, out of sight and protected as well;

Ran them this way all the way until under the rear seats, then secured them to some existing wires to be safe. They aren't ziptied in this picture but were afterwards to some existing cables that ran under the seat;

IMG_00000686_zpsc5bea953.jpg

Next morning I began running my RCA cables. Got my new Knukonceptz karma 4-channel RCA's along with the Bassworx RCA's for my mono amp I had already (seemed like good quality so I kept them);

IMG_00000687_zpsdef418ac.jpg

Began from the radio side. Didn't have to take my head unit off, just the dash trim and one vent section, had access to all wiring. was great!

IMG_00000690_zps2966e06b.jpg

IMG_00000692_zpsdd970851.jpg

Ran the wires down through the bottom of the center console, there was a pretty thick wire harness to attach to that went to heated seats, e-brake cable, etc.;

IMG_00000707_zpsc96a3d04.jpg

Finally got them from the end of the center console then under the small section of carpet and under rear seat, secured them to existing wire under rear seat and then into trunk;

All that is left is to run passenger side wires for front and rear speakers. Nothing too exciting in terms of updates but got the annoying part out of the way.

W10GTI is on the way, UPS says it should arrive by Friday, we shall see :D That's all for updates for now, so far it's coming along nicely. Hope you enjoy my modest build so far :P dying to have a balanced system again!! I will have some other questions, comments tomorrow as well. Debating some other things!!
