brody_da_man Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 looking to run some rockford fosgate P3D412's in this ported box. Im trying to figure out what the total airspace and what it would be tuned for with the current setup. My issue is that the box is angled and so im stumped. with the sketch tool its hard to get an exact measurement so If it helps just round the measurements.
SterTheDer Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 As far as airspace is concerned, take the mean of it. 10.5" on the low side, 14.5" on the tall side. if it were a rectangle it would be 12.5" tall, then use the width, height of the box Idk how to tell you the tuning :/ its not my area.
Geras Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 I see a problem with the design of the port in one side you have more airspace than the other one, so the tunning freccuency will be diferent, how much, i don't know will need make the numbers, but still there will a difference and i think is not good for get the best of the box. You should change the design, may be used some pvc ports or something like that
Bradprobert Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 Use this formula to find the area of one side(left or right does not matter) then multiply it by your length 48 9/64" That will give you your gross volume. After that you must subtract all displacements: wood, port, subs, and bracing; then you will have your net volume. Your net volume is what matters when you are trying to match it to your subs. Then to find your tuning, I use the torres tuning calculator. you enter your net volume and port dimensions and it will give you the tuning frequency. to find the Torres calculator just search for it in google and it will be one of the first choices that lead back to this site. Swordlordboy1234 Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 The only issue I see is the back of the port is 10 inches tall and the front is 14? And yet the tunnel of this port stays the same width the whole way around. Can you make the box the same height front to back? You can keep your same dims and have a good box. Correct me if I read that wrong. Jessica Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 Do you have the skill to make those cuts? Are you going to have someone cut it for you? Are these your max dimensions? I'm just trying to find out some more info here so we can help. Rest in peace, walled 87 accord build log 03' Corolla build with AA Mayhem inside. Joe X Posted August 7, 2013 Report Posted August 7, 2013 Port area need to be the same throughout the port, in your case it is not, better use aero ports or try a different design.
