DC 10k amp hum at low gain

Recommended Posts

Just had the 10k running or the first time , it's scopes clean around 1/2 gain but it hums until you turn it down a little above 1/4 gain. I don't get what it could be . Any suggestions? Input voltage is 2.5v

A lot of amps will do this. My old 2100's and new 3500's all do this but not quite that extreme. If the DD-1 or scope shows distortion, the amp will hum and still hum a bit below that level. IIRC there was some sort of parts in the amp that make the noise and it is perfectly fine. :)

I'm no expert though. Maybe someone from DC will chime in.

Some Class D amps hum when they are clipping. It's basically an easy way to set your gains LOL.

So is it alright to leave it where it shows an in lipped signal even if it hums? Otherwise humming stops at a little over 1/4 gain which doesn't seem right

If i use the -5db tone and i set with my dd-1 as soon as the distortion light comes on my amp starts to hum. Right now i have it set with -10db tone so when i set the gain it is at humming level. I haven't had any problems with my amp and I'm sure you shouldn't either as long as your setting your gains with an o-scope or dd-1.
