So I have a pioneer deh-p8300ub headunit. This specific units is supposed to put out 4v but I used my dmm and im not reading that much..I tried with the mtx excursion test tone and even with the volume up to 50 it only put out max 1 volt and im sure at that kind of volume it had to have been clipping..I set the dmm to acv and put the positive on the middle lead and the negative to the outter ring of the rca wire. Wires are brand new memphis . I been trying to set the gains. Im goin crazy with this crap. I kno the unit clips at about 47-48 volume..max volume is 62. Im so tired of this. I still need to finish my big 3 upgrade. Anyone think they know whats going on

I don't understand your issue. Are you worried that your h/u is not putting enough power out of the rca's? If so check the settings on your unit. You should first make sure if your hooking a sub up to it it's in the right pre amp outs. Also it should have a setting like subwoofer level or something like that make sure it's maxed. It should not distort but if you want to make sure it doesn't find or buy a dd-1 or oscilloscope to make sure. The dmm way is not a good way of setting your gains.

Yes the ouput is correctly connected. Most pioneer decks with 3 preouts are supposed to out put 4 volts to the sub output. At most its doing 1.2. So that has me worried. The rca cables are brand new. I have been working on this system for a couple of weeks and its starting to bother me. I dont remember if I maxed the sub output or not. I have will double check. I know I set the eq to flat ..no bass boost h/u sub curve set at 80hz. I do have a 4channel amp as well. Could it be the crossover on that amp set too low of a frequency? I have it around 100hz hpf. Coulrnt turn the gain up at all on the 4ch because if i even turn it up just a hair it starts to distort the highs badly. Like I said im starting to think the headunit just needs to be replaced. I did buy it brand new from a shop.

Up to +6 ? Ok. And then my bass amp has the input sensitivity switch which goes from 1x -10x. After I turn up the sub level should I switch to 10x sensitivity and reset the gains?
