Hey guys, I was wanting to know more about the fs of a subwoofer and if affects the way you tune a box. For example the fs of my Hdc 3 15" subwoofer is 38 Hz. Building a new box soon and want to be well educated on these things so i can move forward and not be oblivious to the important parts. - Thanks

The Fs of a woofer is the frequency in which the cone moves with the most velocity. It is typically less efficient to send signals below the Fs of a speaker, and signals sent below tend to cause large amounts of excursion.

Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist?

I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . .

What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself

but what has drawn your attention

in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums

An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space

Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears,

thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.

If you can explain to me the other parameters, that would be great, but so far i've heard that the fs of a subwoofer is important when building a box.

Here are some links that will help. Please read through all of them then ask if you need something more clearly elaborated.

Means the resonant fq in a free air environment.....something you will never see when installed in a vehicle.

Aka means little.

Wow, This will give me a better understanding of the parameters. Thanks for taking time to help me get a better understanding, I appreciate it man.

Wow

I wonder why they even publish t/s parameters?

Current system:

1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s

Previous systems:

2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz.

1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.

Point is FS alone is not the be all end all....doesn't mean a sub in equal environments will play "lower"

Many factors involved besides that.
