cloud77 Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 I have had a couple of type Rs give me a good couple years. Since you are giving them rated, I would give yourself 3-3.4 cubes and tune a little higher. 34-38 Hz should be good. Keep in mind these use a 2 or 2.5 inch coil. They hit the lows, but don't shoot for them. You will get more spl from 35-45 Hz notes on these woofers while sounding very crisp. They do get hot! and they use cheap glue on the baskets to glue the surround down. I had 2 15" type Rs and tuned very low to find that the glue came undone and rubbed the coil a bit. 2004 Grand Prix GT (2) 12" RE XXXs (04/05 XBL^2) 5 cu. ft tuned @ 35 Hz MMATS HD4000.05 MMATS SQ4100 Infinity Kappa components Juice Box black cherry Duralast platinum group 34 1/0 KNU OFC, 2/0 welding Singer 250A
Syphlyn Posted September 19, 2013 Author Report Posted September 19, 2013 So 3 - 3.4 cubes for the entire box? cloud77 Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 3.4 is net after port area. 2004 Grand Prix GT (2) 12" RE XXXs (04/05 XBL^2) 5 cu. ft tuned @ 35 Hz MMATS HD4000.05 MMATS SQ4100 Infinity Kappa components Juice Box black cherry Duralast platinum group 34 1/0 KNU OFC, 2/0 welding Singer 250A
Syphlyn Posted September 19, 2013 Author Report Posted September 19, 2013 I was contemplating going to 4 net, or should I stick with ~3.4? cloud77 Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 you shouldn't make it that big. 3.5 would be max. They recommend 1.7 per. You can try it but then it gets difficult calculating port area. 2004 Grand Prix GT (2) 12" RE XXXs (04/05 XBL^2) 5 cu. ft tuned @ 35 Hz MMATS HD4000.05 MMATS SQ4100 Infinity Kappa components Juice Box black cherry Duralast platinum group 34 1/0 KNU OFC, 2/0 welding Singer 250A
