options for deadener?

I have never used it, but the technicians at work say it works good on cars. I work at a body shop they just use it for sound dampening I was going to put a couple of sheets on my Subaru Crosstrek. That thang has alot of road noise.

Browsing YouTube. Came across an SMD enthusiast. Guy has a Yukon with 2 Fi 18's and 2 RF 2500's. He has 4 layers of murdermat on the extreme front and rear sections of his roof with 8 layers across the center. Whoa.

But the thing is it isn't acting as a sound dampener at that point. It is acting as a barrier, and butyl/aluminum are very poor materials to use for that application.

Even if he is trying to just add mass to the vehicle it has already been established that once again he is using the wrong product.

Totally understand. The sound created from his system will be deflected instead of being absorbed, with this much deadener. Imagine how much weight you are adding to the vehicle with 8 layers.

just checked up on it, seems decent, dont know much about deadener cept for dyno and the other top name brands, im just looking to get the rattle out of the trunk as much as possible, see they have trunk kit for 65 which aint bad

how would you apply deadener? last deadener i purchased i had to use a heat gun or a torch to heat it up to form into all the grooves. but it everntually fell off after a year. it was cheap stuff i got from a friend that he had alot of xtra.

Audio Technix and Hushmat are quite simple to install. Just pull off the parchment liner and place. No heat guns or torches needed. Adheres quite well. I would suggest a hard rubber roller to get the corners and edges down and to get the air pockets out.

I would definitely recommend using a rubber roller, especially when doing a large amount. It's not really hard to do just be careful removing any factory panels, etc.

We have worked with a few of the popular brands mentioned across these forums and they all seemed relatively the same with minor differences. A few brands you can check out are

- Metra's Ballastic

Be prepared for quite the shoulder and forearm workout if you ever apply the material to the roof, etc :-)

Yeah. Get ready to use some elbow grease. It is a time consuming project to make it look sexy.Be patient with it, because it's hard to correct mistakes. Good luck man
