Sub cuts out at high volumes

I have a JL 1000/1 that is powering an American Bass XFL 15. For some reason, when I turn the volume up, the subwoofer cuts out. When I turn the volume back down, it starts working again. The power light on the amp stays on. I have a Yellow top Optima under the hood, with 4 gauge wiring running to the amp. Any idea what the problem could be?

It's probably worth mentioning the system is in a 2004 Lexus ES330

whats the voltage dropping to when this occurs?

if you dont know, you need to find out with a multimeter set to DC volts and measuring at the amplifier power terminals.

do u have stock hu ? how did u connect RCA's ?

I have a stock HU and i'm wired in through a PAC loc

Those amps have regulated power supply and shouldn't cut out until below 11 volts.

Your coils may be shorting, but in my experiences when that happens I can hear it crackle at the same time until they aren't shorting.

Also check for bad RCAs.

You are low on power or gains are not set right. Check voltage.

You could also have a loose connection. Make sure everything is solid

Im betting its a grounding issue..make sure you are grounding to a bare metal.best bet is to bolt the ground down along with a lock washer..dnt use self tapping screws they become loose...check grounding and all connections on the battery..make sure any settings on that pac adapter are 3/4 up not all the way down or up.. remove the power and ground wires from the amp and then put them back and tighten well...because it could be a connection at the amplifier thats loose..update us if you still hav3 a problem after trying all this..
