ASxTech Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 Hey guys I have a Hifonics 1700D running 2 Rockford fosgate P3 subwoofers at 1ohm. System goes great at low volume but when I turn my system up and turn my bass control knob up to 100% after about 10 second the fuse in the power wire blows. Currently I have a 60A in the fuse block and I have put the DD-1 on my gains so no distortion. Amp doesn't go into protect I put a new fuse back in and works fine until I put it 100% on the bass amp at high volume. Should I upgrade the fuse to a 80A or lower the ohms for the subwoofers it never use to even when wired at 4 ohms Thanks

The wire should be fused at what the WIRE can sustain for amperage. Most 4 gauge can support up to about 100-150 amps safely. The whole idea is to not send more current through a wire than it can safely support. You send more amperage than it can safely carry, you get resistance. Resistance equals heat. Heat equals melting the wire's jacket. That in turn, equals car fire. That is obviously worst case scenario. Long story short, if you have a quality brand of 4 gauge, step your fuse up to a 100A or a 150 if the wire can handle it Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
