Gain Setting confusion with DD-1??

Oh man. Much much fail here.

I'm on mobile. I'll post back when I can write a book.

Maybe someone can take over. But, you would use that 40 @0db to find the HU clip point. Note that number.

Now, go to the 40hz@ -10db track, to set the sub amp with the HU at the noted volume. AND!!! You need to turn the volume up on the

iPod if your using that shitty head phone jack. That will also introduce voltage. So it has to be up, with your deck.

All settings flat, xovers opened.

Headphone jack is terrible quality.

CD and USB are the best way to go.

Did you set amp gain with 0db? Sorry if I missed something

I set amp gain with the 0db track. BUT I have sub level on the head unit at +15 db so I thought that would basically be like using the -15 db track.

Oh? Your ONLY using the iPod?

You have no deck?

No, I have a kenwood excelon deck but I meant my source for music is my iphone. I don't use CDs. So I will be using the headphone jack on the deck or the sub because all of my music is on my iphone.

Thought it would be like -15? No!

-15db is bad, lots of clipping.

Set head unit with 40hz @0db

Amp 40hz @-10db

So should I put the sub level on my deck at 0db and then use the -10 track, or use the -10 db track and have my sub level at +15?

No. The subwoofer level inside the deck on most decks needs to be maxed. My deck is +6.... Yours is +15. That's just a setting to get the highest pre out voltage for your subwoofers. Use - 0db 40hz to find the clipping point of your deck. Change tracks, go to -5db or -10db and set your gains on the click below your 0db number. Done.

And yes. Don't ever use the headphone jack.

Okay, thanks. So can I just use the cd to set gains, or since I never listen to CDs do I need to download the test tracks onto my phone? I tried to download the test tracks that are straight off of the cd but it wouldn't let me put them on my phone.

Just use the CD that came with the DD1...

Okay I will. I didn't know if since USB was a different source of output than cd if that meant that I had to set amp gains with a test tone off of USB.
