dog24fret Posted October 27, 2013 Report Posted October 27, 2013 My wife's 99 gmc burb's battery is at 3.5 volts dead. This batt is 5 months old when I went to charge it. The charger will go into protect mode and say light up the error light. This thing sat for a week without being started. Lights were off including dome,map,engine bay and on & on. Modrain found yet. If that checks out, pull the battery, load test, and see if it will hold a charge after sitting for a few days. CHEVY4X4BLAZER Posted October 27, 2013 Report Posted October 27, 2013 I agree with snow, you can force feed the dead battery for a bit with a running engine and jumper cables. Then you should be able to get the charger to take over. If all else fails, Warranty? ??
dog24fret Posted October 28, 2013 Author Report Posted October 28, 2013 Sorry guys had other things going. Yes I did disconnect the battery to charge it. Tried to jump it but battery died overnight. The alt is charging at 14.6v at 87-94amps. Can't find any drains anywhere yet. I just find it very odd it would do that for no reason. Today jumped it again let it run for 20min the. Drove it for a while. Parked it 4hrs later checked it and it was back at 5 volts. I didn't try the force feed part. Hadn't heard of that before. Thank you guys for the inputs. If it's not under warranty, replace it. For it to drop that much voltage without being connected to any potential load, it's got some shorted cells. Three of them...
