Best use of 4-5 cubic feet?

To find what meets your needs, consider the EBP of the subs you're looking at. EBP is derived by dividing the sub's Fs by its Qes and it's a pretty good indicator of what kind of volume you'll need.

For instance, your CVRs probably have an EBP somewhere around 35-40 and would need a ton of air behind the in order to play the lows. On the other hand, a sub with an EBP in the 80s would play the lows in a ported box that's about the recommended sealed size for your Kickers.

There are definitely other factors but EBP has always been a very reliable indicator of needed volume in my experience.

Also, I wouldn't worry much about overpowering the subs that are being discussed in this thread. Subs on this level are almost always underrated and generally speaking, any driver can be overpowered by 25-50% without danger so long as it's a clean signal. For the subs you're looking at... double rated is not at all uncommon.

Thank you for the primer on EBP, and all the suggestions! After looking around and reading up, I have decided to up the budget.

Goals have escalated quickly. My initial budget was just double what I had in my current set up but I want to bump the budget up to 800-1k, and around 2k watts RMS through a 15 in a 3-4ish cubic foot box. I am looking at the SQ HDC3 or 4, the Sundown Z, DC Level 4, Havoc, or ? I appreciate all the help so far, I think I have more reading to do!

2 sundown x12's! doooooo iiiiiiiit

I like that, or a Z series from SA. If I have the money I would go sundown, if I am on a budget I would get SQ's entry level. THE HDC3 & 4 are competition grade subs I believe. Can't take a beating for sure lol.

Sundown Zv4 15. I guess it depends on Black Friday though. Still might do a DC Level 4. Either way I want to try to get up to 2k watts rms.

You can't go wrong with Sundown. I'm running two Zv3 15s now and I can't even make them get warm, lol. But also, I'd take a look into the CT Sounds Exos. They're hand built at the company's facility in Spring, Texas and are rated conservatively at 2500 rms. Plus, they're a bit less than the v4.

I'm already running all CT Power and before my build is completed, I'll be running the Exos as well.
