The 300 strait six that Ford made is just as, if not more reliable than the Jeep strait six. I know of multiple 300's with more than 300k miles on the clock that run like new. There is one guy on one of the forums I frequent for tech advice on my truck that has 600k+ on a stock, never rebuilt 300.
boom50cal Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 I've been around several 300-6 trucks with 300k+ plus too. my grandfather has/had a 82 f150 with a 300 and a 4 speed granny with 535k before the odometer broke lol. Don't have any problems on the highway either.With a good driving attitude you can get 16-17mpg around town in them. Unsure of highway mpg, haven't spent enough time in a 300-6 truck to run one out on the highway. I know my dads 94 f150 with a 300-6 made it to Dallas on a tank from Duncan with a pair of jet ski's behind it, probably 20ish. For the most part, all the fullsizes, 78-96, are basically the same apart from efi/carb/engine management. Up until 86ish they were carb'd. My favorite is the 300-6 efi/5 speed trucks, followed by the 302/AOD auto. Much older than mid-80's and you have a rust bucket.
