petrulak1993 Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 Do the pulley spin freely or does it have some resistance to turn it? I just received my alternator and when i went to turn the pulley, it had a tight feeling to it.

petrulak1993 Posted November 14, 2013 Author Report Posted November 14, 2013 No. It's a serious question, because I've saw others ho alternators that spin freely, unlike mine. I didn't know if something was up or not. It's my first ho alternator.
Kyblack76 Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 There needs to be some resistance. Your spinning the rotor shaft. The poles, field windings, and such. So yes, a bit of resistance is common. Is there any scraping noises? Or spin then catch, spin then catch type of movement? How made the alt if you dont mind me asking? petrulak1993 Posted November 14, 2013 Author Report Posted November 14, 2013 I don't hear any scraping when turning it by hand. (Not hooked up on my vehicle yet) I'm not sure about the spin then catch. If I try to spin it fast, it'll stop almost right after. Maybe since it's wound more that's why it feel tight? From Excessive. I've heard great things about the place. It was the only place to do my alternator too. Ha

finkster Posted November 14, 2013 Report Posted November 14, 2013 Some alts have clutches which may make it hard to spin. But the majority of them should spin smoothly by hand. DAT 4125------>RE XXX comps active Eclipse cd7000 I serve drunks for a living
