Correct way to wire 2 relays?

Recommended Posts

I need a relay for the switch to my bass amp and a relay for a video bypass. Would this be the correct way to hook it up?

That is not correct and if you have it connected to a head unit, you'll likely damage it.

Are you using a head unit out to turn the amp and bypass on or will it be a manual switch?

why do you have 2 relays if you are jumping them? they both turn on when you flick the switch?

why not jsut get 1 relay to handle all the load?

One is switching power, the other is switching ground, and neither is controlled with the switch. The switch will only be active when the headunits remote lead activates the relays.

But like bbeljefe said, that may damage headunit, bosch relays usually draw around 150mA each, and im not sure on every headunit, but I believe they are usually around 300mA max on remote line

max on a remote line output [from a headunit] is generally 150mA, and can be as low as 10mA in rare cases, neither will have an issue powering a relay. You only need enough amperage to get the coil to flip over which is VERY small, then all your output comes straight off the 12v side of your system (batteries)

I'm sorry, I was thinking backward with the pin designations for coil and contact. That said, I wouldn't switch both relays with the head unit remote.

2 of those relays will draw over 200-250mA...which both well exceed your given values for the supported output of a headunit, although I have never seen one as low as 10mA.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Remote in should go to 86 on the second relay. Then grab the remote output from the second relay to turn on the 1st.

Then you headunit is just turning on one relay and that relay will turn on the relay for your bypass.

Again correct me if I'm wrong.

i still dont see the need for 2 relays. can someone explain why 2 relays are needed? the head unit will flip one relay on and you can run everything off of that relay.
