Jskiles Posted December 15, 2013 Report Share Posted December 15, 2013 So this morning i'm driving to work listening to music, then all of a sudden I hear a popping sound and the bass kicks off.I turn the radio off and pull over to see whats up and don't see or smell anything burnt up. Check my fuse in the back and its good, check the voltage to the amp and its reading 14.5v like it should, check the resistance to the sub and its at 2 ohms, but I have an idea why I may have blown the amp. I have a D3400 under the hood, a d925 in the back, positive and negative runs of knu cca 1/0, 1 fuse going to each end of the positive run, But i do not have a fuse between the back battery and amp (didn't seem necessary as it was only a 10 inch run. Dumb ass me) and stock alternator. The amp was run at 2 ohms. A couple days ago I had to drive a really ruff ass back road to bypass traffic from a wreck. for one, you should set your bass amp with -5 or 0db. Very rarely is -10 an ok setting, so you were probably clipping depending on how much you had it turned up. Secondly, the amp being cold doesnt mean something wasnt wrong internally from previous statement, i have had amps pop on good voltage while being cold to the touch from clipping hard for a short period. Trying to rule out anything with the RCAs/head unit it goes into protect a half a second after it sees power without any rcas hooked up.
