Jbarrera93 Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 Okay so lately I've been thinking of selling my current setup 2 12's and 1200.1 to get an 18" HDC3.0. I just recently put in the 2nd 12" and was okay with sound wasn't too much louder than the single but I thinking of moving bigger and eventually a wall here in the near future. Just wanted some honest opinions and advice. Thanks Guys. 2001 Chevy Blazer LS Kenwood KDC-HD552U 2 12" SDC 2.5 D4 Fi SP4 18" 4 Sundown SA-12's HiFonics BE 1200.1 Soundstream RUB1.2500D Looking for a 5k XS Power D3100 4 Soundqubed 6.5's (Pro Audio) 2 Soundqubed 3-Way 6.5's 2 Soundqubed Super Tweeters
Karkov Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 What box are you using for the 12's. Box makes or breaks the way it sounds. Possibly try making a box that is specific for your subs and power if you aren't already using a custom box. Unless you have your heart set on walling it and going with bigger subs. Also, why not go with a SoundQubed amp? Maybe your current amp can't push two subs like it pushed one sub? I'm all for switching to 18's and walling that bitch off but maybe there is some less expensive alternatives you can do first to get louder and be happy. 2007 Chevy Tahoe (SOLD) 12 ~ FI Audio X series 10" w/BP option 2 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @0.67 3 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @1.0 2 ~ PPI 3 way sets (not installed yet) 1 ~ RF T400-4, 1 ~ RF T600-2, 1 ~ RF T600-4 4 ~ CT Sounds 5.25" Strato comps (rear fill only) 1 ~ XS Power D4800 1 ~ XS Power D3400 8 ~ XS Power XP3000 160 stock alt, Mechman 370 Elite, 185 DC Power 320+ Sq. So I'd rather just upgrade all at once. Friend of mine has his 2200 for sale so going to look into that today. 2001 Chevy Blazer LS Kenwood KDC-HD552U 2 12" SDC 2.5 D4 Fi SP4 18" 4 Sundown SA-12's HiFonics BE 1200.1 Soundstream RUB1.2500D Looking for a 5k XS Power D3100 4 Soundqubed 6.5's (Pro Audio) 2 Soundqubed 3-Way 6.5's 2 Soundqubed Super Tweeters

alaskanzx5 Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 is that a joex box? looks like it. if it is the box should be fine assuming it was built to his cutsheet/direction which im sure it was. a single 18 has more cone area then 2 12s and so it could be louder but you aren't giving those 12's much power. if they can handle more save up some money and buy a bigger amp/biggest amp they can handle. if you still aren't happy with it sell the 12's then get different subs, doesn't have to be an 18" but if you want an 18" just get one that can handle the new amp and get a good box design. work in steps, adding power to the 12s (if they can handle more power don't know what speakers you have) t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
Jbarrera93 Posted December 28, 2013 Author Report Posted December 28, 2013 Yea subs are rated at 600 RMS, I don't know what the 1200 is putting out with the stock electrical. Amp is supposed to 800x1 @ 2ohm which is how I had it wired with the single sub. I have it wired down to 1 ohm which should be 1200x1 is that a joex box? looks like it. if it is the box should be fine assuming it was built to his cutsheet/direction which im sure it was. a single 18 has more cone area then 2 12s and so it could be louder but you aren't giving those 12's much power. if they can handle more save up some money and buy a bigger amp/biggest amp they can handle. if you still aren't happy with it sell the 12's then get different subs, doesn't have to be an 18" but if you want an 18" just get one that can handle the new amp and get a good box design. work in steps, adding power to the 12s (if they can handle more power don't know what speakers you have) 2001 Chevy Blazer LS Kenwood KDC-HD552U 2 12" SDC 2.5 D4 Fi SP4 18" 4 Sundown SA-12's HiFonics BE 1200.1 Soundstream RUB1.2500D Looking for a 5k XS Power D3100 4 Soundqubed 6.5's (Pro Audio) 2 Soundqubed 3-Way 6.5's 2 Soundqubed Super Tweeters
alaskanzx5 Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 well then, cant really add much power to them with out risking burning the voice coils. maybe upgrading to different 12's could be an option. a single 18 on the same amp could be louder because of the increase in port area but it has more to do with the box then anything. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
Jbarrera93 Posted December 28, 2013 Author Report Posted December 28, 2013 More than likely I will buy the 2200 my friend is selling keep the 12"s until the 17th then buy the 18" and sell the 12's amp and wiring as a package deal to someone here locally. 2001 Chevy Blazer LS Kenwood KDC-HD552U 2 12" SDC 2.5 D4 Fi SP4 18" 4 Sundown SA-12's HiFonics BE 1200.1 Soundstream RUB1.2500D Looking for a 5k XS Power D3100 4 Soundqubed 6.5's (Pro Audio) 2 Soundqubed 3-Way 6.5's 2 Soundqubed Super Tweeters
