Hi guys im new to the forum but am a long time lurker. A little background about my limited car audio experience, My current setup is a single SSA ICON 12 running 800w at 1 ohm off of a 'RE audio 1000.1 in a 2.25 cu ft. Box tuned to 32hz. Box was made myself using 3/4 mdf with liquid nails and clamps. Actually blew the lid off it yesterday. So I'll be adding some screws.

As for my questions. 1.my amp is getting pretty hot which worries me because I don't have extra cash to spare to replace it if it goes. 2. I actually just received the sub 5 days ago. So im still babying it and learning to tune my amp. So! How do you guys recommend I go about tuning my amp? I have a oscilloscope app on my phone and a test tone app also. Can I use those to get it pretty close?

First off Welcome.

Second to my knowledge those apps aren't entirely accurate.

What coil config is the iCon?

Its a dual 2ohm I believe.

I would find a local shop in your area who owns an OScope or check the SMD map and see if there is anyone near you who owns a DD-1 and/or CC-1

Forgot to mention I'm also running a sound quest LOC.

Seems like go the most part just tuning my amp correctly will fix my issues?

Also is it okay for the amp to get pretty hot? Can I mount it a certain way to dissipate heat better?

Amps get hot. Nature of the beast.

IMHO, I'd purchase a DD1, and dial the amp and LOC using it.

Ditch the loc ASAP. Most I've ever seen are just blah at best.

Hello and welcome. Just like these guys said, you really need a DD1 at MINIMUM. Any set up youre going to change to in the future is going to need to be retuned from the front back too, so might as well spend the money to buy one. It's a great tool to keep in the tool box. Well NOT the tool box, but keep on hand.

To dissipate heat if you're really worried about it, I'd maybe think about raising up the amp a bit, maybe use rubber grommets between the amp and the mounting spot to put some space between them. Then a fan will always help move air under it. Otherwise, it's hard to say. Is it hot like so hot you can't keep your hand on it, or just warm or what?

Pics of mounting spot? Tuning it better is going to help a ton as well, like every one else said too.

I second what the other members are saying. My amp would get pretty hot, but after I bought a DD-1 and tuned it, it only gets warm now at best. The pics of where it's mounted would help too like Scooter said it's important to have a good amount of airflow around the amp.
