The orangish shellac or varnish or whatever wasn't doing much for me so I decided to strip it off and stain/refinish the stock. I also took the opportunity to smooth out the mag well so it can take the Tapco detachable mags. Didn't have a great "before" pic, but it looked like any other Norinco SKS in factory finish I neglected to take many progress pics. Just imagine a lot of CitriStrip, many grits of sandpaper, steel wool, minwax pre-stain conditioner and stain (ebony color), Birchwood Casey tru-oil, and even throw in some wet sanding. Here's a few pics of it drying after one of the oil coats And the finished product I'm pretty happy with the result. I had never refinished a stock before and was a little intimidated, but some patience and following the directions goes a long way. Originally I was going to buff it down to a satin finish, but the gloss is growing on me. I can always knock down the sheen later if I choose to. Thanks for looking!
