avenged4life Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 So in the trunk of my e36 m3 now I have 2 alpine type r running 1k watts clean power each in a 3.5 cubic foot ported enclosure. The subs are top mounted and the port is back firing. The cabin itself has no rattles at all and the license plate is secured with ultra strength double sided thick tape. With that being said the trunk when closed vibrates HELLA loud and I cant find the source of the sound worth the life of me. Anyone with previous bmw experience know what makes the loud ass noise? It pretty much sounds like the whole trunk rear bumper and side panels are one huge vibration.... Looking for something in particular that rattles as compared to going and dynomatting the whole damn trunk lol... Oh and it sounds super clean facing rear and I really dont want to change the port direction... Unless someone has an amazing band pass blue print for an E36 M3 then I'm just looking how to stop rattles in the trunk area
SnowDrifter Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Any deadening on the trunk? Also: subs up/port back in a trunk car is pretty much asking for trunk destruction ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
avenged4life Posted January 28, 2014 Author Report Posted January 28, 2014 Any deadening on the trunk? Also: subs up/port back in a trunk car is pretty much asking for trunk destruction lol xD No real deadening yet other then the rear shelf, it used to rattle the crap out of the rear shelf (upward facing subwoofers.... who would of thought...) but ever since I fixed that all the vibrations have been pushed to the trunk now. After that it was licence plate but I locked that down and now its the whole back of the car it seems. If its not anything in specific and pretty much just everything I suppose I have to bite the bullet and buy a whole damn projects worth of deadening? Thanks for your input btw. Much appreciated
Aj11 Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 are you Sure its not your gas tank and heat shield? when i had my type rs in my Saturn i had a similar problem. i did deadner the trunk and it helped some but it was still very much there. i finally lifted my car up and cranked my system that's when i realized my heat shield was loose and going crazy! i ghetto rigged it and 90% of my issue went away. It sits high enough in the back I can probably just crawl on under and double check nothing bottom side is rattling, its difficult to tell down there cause its all race edition straight piped so its deafening loud anywhere near the exhaust but thanks for the comment I'll run out and check that tommorow when it wont piss everyone off lol.
Aj11 Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 when you said bumper that's what made.me think of it. i thought the same thing until i got under it. deadner is worth every penny tho man! it really is! let me know what you find tmrw and well go from there jvc deck stinger 1800 front hc 2000 kinetic rear 2 runs of 1/0g big 3/4 ct 60.4 2 ct 1400.1 ct EXO 15 d1 lots of deadner type r comps front stage 6 kicker tweets rear stage lots of great stuff coming soon ho alt more bats ct comps for front stage more deadner sweet amp rack lots of L.E.D lights new deck (thinking 80 prs, or flip out)

avenged4life Posted January 28, 2014 Author Report Posted January 28, 2014 Don'tfire up.in a trunk Well I was thinking of rebuilding with rear face rear port, but the only problem with that is the width of fitting 2 12s and a port in the width of a bmw trunk. And I'm 99% sure I'm gonna blow a damn hole through my trunk if I turn the subs back... anyone else have any comments on this as well? Is it really hurting anything firing them up in a bmw trunk with 1k each?

OrzechNJ Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Deadening is a must.. Thick Weather foam strip around the trunk hood will help for sure.. taillights and bumper were rattling in my case.. sometimes Loud is NOT pretty Sounds like its safe to go ahead and bend that ass over.
