Low on port area, no?

Am I going to have some nasty port noise? This is my first box but I thought I had it designed pretty well.

Sweet ride. I would tend to stay away from the CCFL Halos. They tend to not last as long and have a break in the top of them. Check this video here.

I think I will go with that advise and get LED Halos if I get any. The replacement set I have lined up also comes without the CCFL Halos so I think I'll get those and go from there.

A progress update on the box

I changed somethings and shrank the box so that it will be removable. I'm not confident enough in my abilities to build a strong box from within the car so here's the progress from today and my Torres sheet as well

I was going to incorporate a window in the back of the box but was giving me too much trouble so just a solid back for now. Still have body filler and sanding to be done before I glue it all together.

Hmm

That box looks familiar... ;)

I'm curious how it will come out in a larger trunk.

Make sure you brace the bottom of the baffle to the bottom plate VERY well. Had issues with mine.

Agree ^^. You probly want to increase the port area.

Mine's 48in^2 and I wish I had more room to increase it.

What can I say, it's a pretty sweet design and works great for my application. :drinks:

I plan on hitting the front baffle with a staple gun while the glue is setting, I remember what happened to yours in your build log.

Made some adjustments and I hope this is enough port area now

Here's what I say about your rear deck already being ported................. :lame:

No...damn...fair!

;)

I take it you're going to extend the port up from the box and seal the port opening to the rear deck, like I did?

If so, you can expect your tuning to drop even lower. Mine did when I actually did an impedance sweep with my rear deck completed.

You may want even more then just staples in the baffle. Two XL12's and 5kW is going to put some major stress on that box, which I found out the hard way.

You may want to think about extra wood bracing in that area and/or laying some fiberglass around the wood joint.

With the two pieces of wood joining at that acute angle, a lot of force is going to be applied which will work to separate those pieces. Much more so then the other 90 degree angles.

Port area looks better. I'm sure some will tell you to go even bigger :o

Mine has no port noise and works pretty well so your setup should do even better.

Keep those pics coming! :good:

So I have it in the trunk I just haven't gotten to install the subs just yet. Might take some time tonight if not I will definitely get it all done tomorrow.

Time for pics!!

Bit of a port extension to deal with the added port width.

Found I really need some sound deadener  Shaking the crap outta the trunk. I put some towels under the box so that it has some kind of deadening where it contacts the metal.

Cleaned it up a little but still have a long way to go. The Second Skin order is going to have to wait till I pay for my timing belt and transmission mount. I cut some carpet up for the sub face and tidied up the trunk. I also changed all my interior lights to blue LEDs

Yes that is carbon fiber tape on the cone, something managed to put a small crack in the cone so I patched it to keep it from spreading. Hopefully it will hold and give me no further problems.

Just got a call from my apartment office that I have a package at the office and the only thing I had been waiting on was an SMD DD-1 that my girlfriend bought me for my birthday. Work can't end fast enough! I can't wait to mess around with the thing!!!
