Benefits of External Port?

Hey guys

So I've got a 4th order with 2 SP4 18s, and I'll be messing around with the port pretty soon to try and gain some output. As of now, my box is firing through my rear window, and the port is all internal. It's lacking output, and I have been advised to mess around with port configs. My question is this:

Are there any clear cut benefits/drawbacks of having a 100% external port?

I would like to have the port extend through the rear window (as it doesn't now) IF it helps my output. Are there any benefits of an all external port versus an all internal port or half and half? Thanks for input.

Other than they look kinda funny there is no disadvantage. One advantage is you can change to port to whatever you want without effecting the internal volume of the box. Performance wise there is no difference.
