Dude2800 Posted February 24, 2014 Report Posted February 24, 2014 If you actually have two subs one is acting as a passive radiator, but it's not controlled. I recently looked into passive radiators thinks it may be a way of saving port space. Nope, you have to treat it as a sub and give it airspace. The way that it is tuned is by adding weight to the cone.
Dude2800 Posted February 24, 2014 Report Posted February 24, 2014 http://www.aperionaudio.com/bravus-ii-10d-powered-subwooferThe sub I have is a aperion audio bravus 10dBroken link
Dude2800 Posted February 24, 2014 Report Posted February 24, 2014 Here's a link I found when I researched. http://www.subwoofer-builder.com/passive.htm
Aj11 Posted February 24, 2014 Report Posted February 24, 2014 what's the point tho? saving port area and tuning for a sealed box. it just doesn't make since to buy a sub and not give it power. this said does it have to be the same kind of sub. say i wanted to do this with a dc xl 12. would i have to buy 2 or could i just go buy a cheap Sony sub and use that as the radiator. jvc deck stinger 1800 front hc 2000 kinetic rear 2 runs of 1/0g big 3/4 ct 60.4 2 ct 1400.1 ct EXO 15 d1 lots of deadner type r comps front stage 6 kicker tweets rear stage lots of great stuff coming soon ho alt more bats ct comps for front stage more deadner sweet amp rack lots of L.E.D lights new deck (thinking 80 prs, or flip out)
Dude2800 Posted February 24, 2014 Report Posted February 24, 2014 They sell passive radiators and the link I shared the guy talks about how he made his own out of blown subs.

A passive radiator has no motor, so you don't give it power and it doesn't have to be the same sub. This for example is a passive radiator http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-sd315-pr-12-passive-radiator--295-496?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=pla
Aj11 Posted February 24, 2014 Report Posted February 24, 2014 I'm slowly starting to understand. i guess my question is what is the comparison of having one sub on 500w alone. a sub with 500w with a passive radiator, then having 2 powered subs on 500w. jvc deck stinger 1800 front hc 2000 kinetic rear 2 runs of 1/0g big 3/4 ct 60.4 2 ct 1400.1 ct EXO 15 d1 lots of deadner type r comps front stage 6 kicker tweets rear stage lots of great stuff coming soon ho alt more bats ct comps for front stage more deadner sweet amp rack lots of L.E.D lights new deck (thinking 80 prs, or flip out)
Jessica Posted February 24, 2014 Report Posted February 24, 2014 The suspension on a passive is different than the active driver iirc. And I think the box should be pretty close to the recommended size for one sub. Maybe slightly larger. I don't have time to read those links cause I'm at work.
