BamaBoy334 Posted February 24, 2014 Report Posted February 24, 2014 Hi Bass Heads. Been Searching for reconmmended port area for HDC3 18s when using round/aero ports. All i keep getting is that HDC3's love port area and that it doesnt take the usual 16-18sq/in of port when using slot cus round ports are more efficient but it doesnt tell you how much to go by when using round ports. Ive emailed Soundqubed but they told me to look on forums...So I come to you vets today live from the "Dirty Dirty" Afghanistan looking for answers. & Yes its that dirty af over here. Anyways.. On to Business. I will be building a daily wall and wanna use round ports (sonotubes) to save space inside the enclousure. Im pretty sold on sonotube so please let that stay the main topic when it comes to this build. Im aware of flare and all that but please. I will be using 2 HDC3 18s (D1) on a single SQ3500(AQ) @1ohm. The enclousure will be 13cu/ft net tuned @35hz (Dodge Charger) I estimated 12sq/in of port per cu/ft when using round ports for these subs. I wanted to keep the max number of ports down to 2. Math:(port area) 13x12=156 total sq/in of port. (2 10" round ports) 3.14x5x5=78.5sq/in x2=157 total sq/in's of port. (1 14" round port) 3.14x7x7=153.86 total sq/in's of port. 3 8" ports = 150.72 (would be willing to go that route if i have to) Questions: I wanna know if this sounds good as far as using 12sq/in's per for these subs, in this sized enclousure, on this power. I wanna be able to be impressed every time i crank it up and if possable, a little hair tricking haha, but i will settle for great sound and great reactions from friends. Looking for all helpful information regarding round port area for these subs. Please!!
BamaBoy334 Posted February 24, 2014 Author Report Posted February 24, 2014 bump cus i need some help!!
Joe X Posted February 24, 2014 Report Posted February 24, 2014 It doesn't matter much if it's enough port area or not if you don't have space for a slot port, that said it looks like enough port area but you should look into doing flares to the aeros sonotubes. Also it seems that a wall is what you should be doing in that car, if you are doing 2 18s aiming up inside the trunk, you have so much more to worry about than port area.
BamaBoy334 Posted February 24, 2014 Author Report Posted February 24, 2014 no disrespect but it says that i am walling in 13cu/ft. i will update to say i can go as high as 16cu/ft. i want to use the sonotubes. its not aero unless flared. also stated above
Joe X Posted February 24, 2014 Report Posted February 24, 2014 no disrespect but it says that i am walling in 13cu/ft. i will update to say i can go as high as 16cu/ft. i want to use the sonotubes. its not aero unless flared. also stated above You can do flares even for a sonotube just doing a roundover to the wall where you are installing them on, also if you have more space you can consider a slot port 190-200 square inches of port area. And yes I missed your statement on doing a wall sorry. So to get 35Hz on 13 cubes net, the 10" ports would need to be 19 1/2" long each and ideally have a clearance of 10" to the back wall, it would depend on the box layout if it's feasible to implement round ports or not.
BamaBoy334 Posted February 24, 2014 Author Report Posted February 24, 2014 what will the flare do? make it more efficient. not really worried about that. i have a box drawn up for slot so yeaa but im looking to draw one up with these sonotubes. i have enough space. just wanna know the proper math for using round port with this set up
Joe X Posted February 24, 2014 Report Posted February 24, 2014 The flares are a major contributing factor on the advantage of using round ports as they reduce turbulence on the ends, PSP claims up to 3 dB gain over non flared round ports: Here's where you can get calculate the length of the ports http://www.psp-inc.com/tools.html bear in mind that the calculator NEEDS net volume to be entered.
BamaBoy334 Posted February 24, 2014 Author Report Posted February 24, 2014 ive been there multiple times, bass box pro, torres.. many dont trust programs so i wanted to see from a builders point of view
BamaBoy334 Posted February 24, 2014 Author Report Posted February 24, 2014 ive used multiple programs. most dont trust them, so i wanted a double check from a builder point of view
