Ok, so i have this buddy who I am slowly educating and converting to a basshead. He started by getting ripped off on some sealed kenwood 12's and a POS kenwood amp. I got him to upgrade to upgrade to a Rockford fosgate 500.1 mono amp and I set his system with a DD-1 and explained what distortion is and why it's bad, and to NOT touch the gains or bass boost.

Now he is wanting to get a better subwoofer, he wants to (and may have bought already, a RF P3 12'' D2) What are your recommendations on a box?

I convinced him to not get a prefab, but his skills are limited so we are looking at an aero ported box.

It's going in a crew cab F150, and the box is just going to sit on the seat with some quick connects for when he needs to remove it.

I was thinking about a 2 cu ft box with a 4'' PSP port tuned to 38-40 hz, he listens to a lot of rock and country music so a higher tuning would be better.

Thanks guys

Brandon

why would a higher tuning be better? my last box tuned at 38hz with 1.8 net of air space sounded like poop on everything but rap. my new box at 30hz sounds amazing on everything. a single 12 in that truck you might get some hz gain from the cabin but a lower tune is usually more for sq instead of spl.

Backseat boxes usually give bad results, some people have done the following instead with good results and without modifying anything:

IMG_0374.jpg

A simple L shaped slot is almost as simple as a sealed box. a 4" is great port area for a 10" but it's not best for a 12" and more so at higher tuning.

It's a 2006 CC f150 so im not sure which way the seats flip up.

So i just talked to him and he said he could build a slot ported box,

This is what he bought

Ok, so he wants the box to sit in the center of the back seat, if i come up with dimensions, is it possible i could get a design, I'm thinking sub forward and port up.

Edit: 18in by 17in wide and up to 20in for the height

Boxes sitting on the seat aren't a great idea from a safety perspective. Give some thought as to what will happen to that thing if he ever runs into something.

Oh I am well aware and have brought it up a few times, but he wants what he wants. All i can do is make sure he knows the risks associated. My box is bolted down where my back seat used to be.
