Mike R Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Looking for some feedback on my next move here, I have searched but it seems like it really is dependent on vehicle/existing mods- I am completing the Big 3 and running my power/ground wire (Sky High 1/0) in the next 2 weeks in my Impala to power a SQ2200. I currently have a fairly new, non AGM battery up front and a 145 amp AD244 out of an Escalade. I am guessing that I will have a hard time giving my amp the power it needs to run full tilt, although its a DD and I may have enough energy for that (thoughts?). I am thinking I can: 1. Add a battery to the back to try to help smooth out the power and keep the amp happy. 2. Replace the front battery with a better AGM battery. 3. Have the alternator built. I still have the stock alt I could shim and throw on while I have the alt built up. Turns out somehow I owe rather than a refund, so right now it will be one of the three as a next step. Thoughts and opinions are welcome!
WastedTalent Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Don't mix non agm with agm. So don't add a battery to the back. That's my first tip. second, don't get your alt built up. I've seen alt companies say don't rewind, don't do this, don't do that. they're built a certain way and not good. So if get a new alt, get a NEW alt. More expensive but hey. my 2nd tip. So either get a new alt, which shall be expensive, or the biggest AGM battery you can fit up front. That'd be my suggestions. Take it for what it's worth. Sheena = pedobear
alaskanzx5 Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 IMO, check voltage drop if going down to battery voltage or below get an alt. If staying above battery voltage get a batt if you want but anything above battery voltage is good. a lot of people like staying a above 13v. Ooh and if say you can make it somewhat through a sing before dropping below battery voltage them a decent agm should help keep you up there longer but at the end if the day reserve doesn't make up for production IMO. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
Tarball Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Save up get a quality h.o. alt (mechman DC singer) and switch to agm battery. Mike R Posted March 10, 2014 Author Report Posted March 10, 2014 Noted- will finish up the big 3 and see what kind of voltage I am getting under load. Thanks for the suggestions!
